This is a popular nanny cam and home surveillance camera. It has plenty of features that ensure you can keep in contact with your family when you are away at work.

Two features it doesn’t have are sound notifications and a zoom, so if these are important features for you – check out my review of the D-Link DCS-855L nanny cam.

2-way communication

With the 2-way communication, you can chat to your partner or baby sitter when you are not at home, making sure that everything is OK. You can also talk to your little one or sing them a lullaby or even tell them a goodnight story. Being able to chat with your family over the nanny cam is a great feature.

IR night time visionFoscam Wireless IP Camera

This nanny cam uses IR-CUT for better night time resolution and has a range of 26 feet using 11 LED lights for high quality vision in low light settings.

This is a great feature for checking up on your family, when their is not much light to see them by at home, without putting on extra lights.

Easy setup

The Foscam FI9816P uses P2P technology, which makes it easy to connect your IP camera to your network for remote monitoring.

It is advertised as having ‘Plug and Play’ technology, so you don’t need complicated network settings (no port forwarding required) as your camera automatically communicates with the network (you scan a QR code with your mobile device).

With so many people finding that connecting their nanny cam or home surveillance cameras to a home network to be such a complicated, it is nice to see Foscam making this procedure much simpler and quicker.

Storage

With the Foscam nanny cam you have lots of storage options. For example you can store all of your snapshots and videos to an SD micro card, to your PC or to the cloud (a free trial for cloud recording is included). This makes sure that you never lose your precious memories and also makes it easy to share them with friends and family.

Pan & Tilt

This Foscam wireless IP camera is a wide angle security camera with a 70 degree viewing angle and an impressive pan and tilt angle (300 degrees H x 120 degrees V) which you can easily access on the go and move around remotely.

Alerts

You have email alerts for whenever motion is detected in your home, but you don’t have sound detection alerts with this nanny cam.

Live video recordings

With this Foscam camera, you can watch live video recordings on your mobile device wherever you are, as well as on your PC (there are free iOS or Android apps for your mobile devices) and it is compatible with iPhones, Androids and Blackberries.

Anything else?

Foscam F19861P wireless IP cameraIf you use this Foscam camera as a nanny cam, then when your children are grown you can change focus and use it as a home security camera, essentially getting more bang for your buck.

It also works well to monitor your pets or elderly relatives when you are away from home, as well as your children.

However, the Foscam FI9816P does not have a temperature sensor or play lullabies.

So if these features are important to you, then you need to check out my D-Link DCS-855L review as this nanny cam has very similar features as the Foscam, but also plays lullabies and has a temperature sensor as well.

Foscam Wireless IP Camera

Who uses the Foscam FI9816P nanny cam?

The Foscam 19816P nanny cam is a multi-purpose camera, because you can use it for home surveillance or as a nanny cam. So you can keep an eye on the babysitter when your children are left in their care, an elderly relative or even your dog or cat when you are at work.

You can then re-purpose the nanny cam into a home surveillance unit, once your children have grown up or you no longer need to monitor someone at home. So the sues of the Foscam nanny cam are numerous and include:

  • Parents who want to make sure their baby is safe at home when they are at work.
  • Mums and dads who want to talk to their baby, children or partner when they are away from home.
  • Parents who want to keep in touch with their babysitter.
  • People who want to ensure that their elderly relative is safe at home.
  • People who want to keep an eye on their pets while they are at work.
  • Parents who are thinking of reusing the camera for home security when their little ones are grown.

Foscam F19861P wireless IP camera - foscam reviewCustomer Reviews

Pros:  Most customer reviews give the Foscam FI9816P camera a 4 or 5 star rating.

There are far fewer reviews for this camera than for the Foscam FI 8918W, but this is a newer camera.

Even with a top rating, just about everyone needs some help setting up this camera, despite it being advertised as plug and play.

Customer support however, is marvelous and everyone manages to get through the setup process with their help.

Customers remarked on the excellent video quality and the number of great features for such a low and affordable price.

Features I like about the Foscam F19816P nanny cam

The Foscam F19816P is virtually a plug & play nanny cam, because you can just scan the QR code underneath the camera and it automatically connects to your smartphone (no more messing around with routers).

It has everything you need in a nanny cam and comes with a free 30 day trial for cloud storage of your images and videos as well. It also comes with free lifetime support – which is good to know – and you have your choice of a black or white nanny camera.

Points to note about the Foscam F19816P nanny cam

The only complaints about this nanny cam are that it is difficult to set up. Which is sort of a problem, since it is advertised as being super easy.

However, most customers are more than happy with this nanny cam with any setup problems being quickly resolved by customer support. Another point is that this nanny cam doesn’t have a zoom lens, although it does have a pan & tilt function.

Summing up the Foscam Wireless IP Camera

This updated version of the Foscam FI8918W has better quality day and night images than previous Foscam models and is easier to setup on your network. The vast majority of customers really like this Foscam camera, however some customers have had problems setting it up and making it work.

Overall and for the price, the Foscam FI9816P is a very versatile nanny cam that can be used for home surveillance when your children are grown. You can also  use it to monitor your elderly relatives or even your pets, as well as being a nifty baby monitor, when you are at home (day or night).

Foscam FI8918W wireless IP camera - foscam review

Keep your baby safe with the Foscam FI8918W nanny cam

My Foscam FI8918W Review

Whilst this is a WIFI surveillance camera, the Foscam FI8918W can be easily used as a nanny cam to monitor your baby or children while you are away from the home. You can also use this Foscam camera to monitor your pets or elderly relatives as well.

  • WIFI/Wireless camera.
  • 2-way communication.
  • IR night time vision.
  • PC storage.
  • No cloud storage.
  • No SD Card.
  • Pan & Tilt.
  • Motion alerts via email or SMS.
  • Use as a home security camera or a baby cam.

This Foscam wireless IP camera does not have a zoom lens, a temperature sensor or play lullabies. That’s because it is a home surveillance security camera, not specifically a nanny cam.

However, if you want high quality images and a pan & tilt functionality, this makes a great little nanny cam, which can be re-purposed to a WIFI surveillance camera when your family has grown.

2-way communication

With the Foscam FI8918W nanny cam you can speak to your baby, toddler or children so you can hear if they wake or cry. This is a great feature to have in a nanny cam, because it gives you peace of mind when you can talk to your children at any time or sing your baby a lullaby to help them settle.

Mounting of the Foscam FI8918W

You can mount the Foscam security camera on the wall or the ceiling, whichever works best for you. However, if you want to fix it on the ceiling don’t forget to go to the live video settings and check the FLIP and MIRROR boxes, which makes the video display the right way up for you.

Set-up of the Foscam FI8918W camera

The initial setup requires an Ethernet connection and following this, it is fully WIFI, but you can also run a cable from the camera to your router if you don’t have WIFI in your home.

Storage

The Foscam wireless IP camera has no on-board storage, so you can’t save videos to the camera itself, instead the videos are stored to your PC.

With that being said, many customers who use multiple cameras in their home (particularly if they are different brands) use Foscam Blue Iris software to manage their camera surveillance on their PC  and find that this solves their problems well.

Alert notifications

The Foscam securitFoscam FI8918W wireless IP camera - Foscam reviewy camera is triggered when motion occurs within its field of view and you will automatically be notification via email or SMS.

It might be better if you were sent a video recording of the event as well, but once you receive an alert – you can remotely access the pan and tilt functions to follow any triggered movements yourself.

Pan & Tilt

As I just mentioned, you can remotely use the pan & tilt function to follow your little one as they scamper across the nursery floor. The field of view is quite narrow however (67 degrees), but the pan and tilt is a nice added feature.

With the Foscam nanny camera, you can monitor your home, pets or children using your smart phone or other mobile device from anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection.

The two-way communication works well with both Windows and Macs, however with a Mac you need to download an app called uFoscam from the Apple Store.

You also need to do this if you use Safari, Firefox or Google Chrome because the only browser that supports the audio communication of this camera is IE with Active X installed.

Customer Reviews

Most customers give this Foscam wireless IP camera a 4 or 5 star rating and once it is set up (most people found this difficult to do ) everyone loves this camera. Customers find that the images are clear, more so in the daytime than the nighttime, but that is to be expected.  It is easy to use and does a great job for the price.

The main problem with this nanny cam is that it is very difficult to set this camera up at home. Many people have problems with the set up and then with the ongoing connection.

Additional information

This camera is available in black or white with the white version costing a few dollars more than the black version.

The more updated version of the Foscam FI8918W is the Foscam FI9816P – read my review here.

 Foscam FI8918W vs Foscam FI9816P

The Foscam FI9816P has higher resolution images, especially in low light and during the night, has a slightly wider viewing angle (70 degrees vs 67 degrees) and supports micro SD card storage, when compared to the FI8918W.

Set up is also easier with a QR code which you scan with your smartphone and it syncs the camera automatically. There is not much difference in the price between these two cameras.

Features I like about the Foscam FI8918W nanny cam

There is not much missing from the Foscam FI8981W nanny cam and most customers have no problems setting it up at all. Both the images and the audio are clear and for the price, it is a very good value for money nanny cam.

Points to note about the Foscam FI8918W nanny cam

You don’t have a zoom lens or sound alerts with this nanny cam (although, you do have motion alerts). You also need to go onto the website to change any of the settings, but this doesn’t appear to be a problem to most customers.

Quite a few customers have problems setting up this nanny cam, so if you are not a techie whiz, then check out the newer version of this nanny cam, which is easier to set up – the Foscam FI9816P.

 Conclusion

Foscam F18918W wireless IP camera - foscam reviewUnless you are a computer whizz or love pain, then this might not be the best camera for you.

Customers are still having problems setting up this camera and it has been around for a few years now. Foscam customer support however, does seem to be much friendlier now than in earlier reviews with hardly anyone complaining about the lack of help today.

Still, if you want a plug and play nanny cam or home surveillance camera, out of the two Foscam models – it might be better to try the newer version of this camera – the Foscam FI9816P, rather than the FI8918W, because it is easier to set up and is in a similar price range.

Good points

This is the updated version of the WIFI Baby 3.0, so it has all of the same functions (with a 35% bigger viewing angle), and it also streams in HD to the TV and you can receive alert notifications on the new Apple watches.

Points to ponder

As with the WIFI Baby 3.0 nanny cam, you don’t have 2-way communication, you can only hear what is happening at the other end.

Bottom line

This is a fairly expensive nanny cam, but if you are not bothered about the lack of 2-way communication, then it has everything you will need for monitoring your children at home.

My WIFI Baby 4.0 Review

With the WiFi Baby 4.0 you can receive high quality images of your baby or children (even elderly relatives or pets), as well as sound and motion alerts anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection.

  • High precision IR night time vision
  • Large viewing angle
  • Exceptional high quality images
  • SD card slot for local storage
  • Optical Zoom (x 8)
  • Sound and motion alerts via email or SMS
  • Free customer support for 12 months

SD local storage

WiFi Baby 4.0 - best nanny camThis WIFI Baby camera allows you to access the live images on your iPhone, iPad or on Android device, PC or Mac and save them to your SD card.

Unlike many other WIFI nanny cams, you don’t save your videos and images to the cloud, so you don’t have any extra costs or ongoing fees involved, apart from purchasing the app for your mobile device.

In fact, the app is free for Apple products and costs just a few dollars for Android devices.

Audio only

This WiFi Baby camera does not have 2-way communication, so you can’t talk to your baby and sooth them when they are upset or chat to your children while they are doing their homework. You can of course hear them, but you cannot respond to them.

You can also continue to listen in to your baby, even if you are using other apps on your smartphone, but you can also mute the audio as well. The auto mute will turn off when a set noise level has been reached, so if your baby is yelling – you will still be notified even if you have muted the sound.

Expandable up to 4 cameras

WIFI Baby 4 - affordable nanny camYou can add up to a total of 4 cameras to the WIFI Baby network in your home and you can receive video and audio alerts from any of them, at the same time on your mobile device.

You can also listen in to any of the four cameras on your network and also watch all four video feeds at the same time on your phone. Don’t forget that you can add

in other users, so multiple people can check up on your little one, all at the same time.

IR night time vision

You have 30 IR LED lights with a range of 30 ft and an IR cut filter for True Color video, giving you highly precise night time vision. This means you can easily observe your baby in the nursery at night.

Alert notifications

With the WIFI Baby 4.0, you have video and audio alerts on your mobile devices, anywhere at anytime. You will still receive these alerts even if you are using other apps on your mobile device at the same time.

Optical Zoom x8

If you want to zoom in on your baby, you have to use the pinch zoom on the app, as the camera does not have a digital zoom.

Streams in HD to TV

The WIFI Baby 4.0 streams in HD to Apple TV, Android TV, Chromecast, Fire TV – so you can play your videos or show your snaps on your TV screen and share them with family and friends.

Apple Watch Alerts

WIFI Baby 4.0 Apple Watch AlertsIf you have one of the new Apple watches, you can receive audio alerts on this watch, anytime, anywhere. This is a great new feature that none of the other nanny cams have at the moment.

Customer support

You have free US based customer support for the first 12 months – $19.99 per year there after (at time of writing this review).

This is a huge bonus, because many customers have trouble setting up this nanny cam and customer support has been more than helpful helping these customers.

What else?

You do not have a pan and tilt, although you can manually swivel the camera to achieve the best viewing coverage and it has a 35% larger viewing angle than the WiFi Baby 3.0.

The WiFi Baby 4 does not have a temperature sensor or play lullabies. So why the high price? It may be due to the exceptional quality of the images, which is a feature that most customers agree is fabulous, in both daytime and low light levels.

Regardless of the features that the WiFi Baby 4.0 camera does not have, a large majority of customers really like these cameras and find them very reliable, despite not having all of the functionality of some other nanny cams on the market.

System requirements

WIFI Baby 4.0 nanny cam reviewsTo run the WiFi Baby 4.0, you need either Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7, 8, a MAC OSX 10.4 Tiger or Mountain Lion or Apple iOS 7.0+, Android OS 4.3+.

Best viewing is with the iPhone 4+, iPad Air or iOS 8+.

WiFi Baby 4.0 vs WiFi Baby 3.0

The WiFi Baby 4 has a 35% wider viewing angle that the WiFi Baby 3. You also have live streaming in HD to Apple or Android TV, Chromecast, Fire TV or Roku and HD quality images – compared to VGA in the WiFi Baby 3.

What do customers say about the WIFI Baby 4.0?

WiFi Baby 4.0 - WiFi Baby monitor reviews There are only a few customer reviews so far on Amazon for this camera and of these, however more than 70% give the WiFi Baby 4 camera a 4 or 5 star rating.

The main positives about this camera are the high quality images, in day or night time and the really helpful customer support.

A few customers have had connectivity problems, which were not always resolved by customer support. However, this might be due to problems with the home network or with customers not understanding how to configure the camera to work over WIFI.

Summing up the WIFI Baby 4.0

WiFi Baby 4.0 - WiFi Baby monitor reviewsThe main difference between the WiFi Baby 4.0 and the WiFi Baby 3.0 is the extra wide viewing angle, the greater image resolution and the ability for live streaming to TV. Other than these three features, there is no noticeable difference between the two cameras.

So with the WiFi Baby 4.0, you have exceptional quality images and great customer support. Although some people do have connectivity problems, most are resolved by customer support.

The WiFi Baby 4.0 is clearly an expensive camera and may not have all of the features you might want in a nanny cam. However, if your most important priority is high quality images, rather than 2-way communication, pan and tilt or a digital zoom lens – then this is the camera for you – but be aware that you seem to need a reliable high speed connection to make this camera work well and the setup can be a problem.

WiFi Baby 3 Wireless Nanny Cam with Audio Review

WiFi Baby 3.0 - WiFi Baby Monitor

The WIFI Baby 3.0 is a great little nannycam, loved by customers

The WIFI Baby 3.0 is another nanny cam with not a whole lot of features, but customers rate it highly so it is definitely worth a look. It comes with IR night time vision, an optical zoom, wide angle lens, sound and motion alerts and has an SD card slot for local storage.

My WiFi Baby 3.0 Review

With the WiFi Baby 3.0, you can monitor your baby or children while you are away at work and receive alert notifications via video or audio on your iPhone, iPad, Android device or even your PC or Mac, anywhere in the world – so long as you have an internet connection.

  • Listen to your baby and be alerted when they wake up
  • IR night time vision for easy viewing in low light levels
  • SD card slot for local storage
  • Sound and motion alerts via email or SMS
  • Audio only – no 2-way communication
  • Set up scheduled recording times
  • 24/7 customer support

SD card storage

Unlike many other WIiFi nanny cams, you do not need to upload the video recordings to the cloud (so you have no monthly cloud storage fees). Instead, everything is recorded locally to the camera itself via the SD card.

The ability to save your images or videos to an SD card is a huge benefit that not all nanny cams offer and makes it easy to both store and transfer images between devices.

Schedule recordings

If you are working away and you don’t want to miss out on favorite times, such as bath time, then you can schedule live video recordings and watch them at a later date.

You can also set up a weekly recording schedules to record videos at specific times and easily play back the recorded footage at a time that suits you.

Extra nannWiFi Baby 3.0 - WiFi Baby Monitory cameras

You can also use up to 4 cameras in the WiFi Baby monitor network, so you can monitor your baby from different rooms in your home, not just the nursery.

Even better, you can view all four video footage on the one mobile  screen, toggling through each camera as needed and receiving notifications from all four cameras on your smartphone, iPad or tablet.

You can also view the live video footage on different mobile devices at the same time, so parents, grandparents and friends can all check in on your baby together. This is great if you want to keep grandparents in the loop or you all want to watch your little one taking his or her first hesitant steps.

Audio function

This nanny cam does not have 2-way communication, so you can’t talk to your baby or toddler via the nanny camera. Some people don’t like this, because they really want that function, others are not bothered.

If this is an important feature for you then check out the iBaby M6 nanny cam, because if you purchase this nanny cam you only have an audio function, which means you can hear your baby or toddler when they wake or are unsettled, but you can’t talk to them. It does have a white noise filter though, so the audio quality is excellent.

You can also receive SMS or email notifications when your baby wakes (iOS only), so you will always be aware of what is happening at home.

Customer support

This is the one huge bonus with this nanny cam and the one feature that everyone loves – customer support is really helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you set up the camera at home and it is working correctly.

You have free US based customer support for the first 12 months – $19.99 per year following thereafter.

Anything else?

To make this WiFi Baby cam work on your mobile device you need to download the iOS app (free) or the Android app ($3.99).

These are generic apps, but WiFi Baby are working on a branded app for their nanny cam, so keep an eye open for this in the near future.

WIFI Baby 2.0 vs WIFI Baby 3.0

Finally, the WiFi Baby 3.0 is the updated version of the WiFi baby 2.0 with a slightly larger viewing angle, a 30ft IR night range (compared to 20ft in the WiFi Baby 2.0), a new lens and an IR cut filter providing true color video during the day and in low-light conditions.

WIFI Baby 3.0 vs WIFI Baby 4.0

  • WiFi Baby 4.0 has a 35% wider viewing angle than the WiFi Baby 3.0
  • WIFI Baby 4.0 also has live streaming in HD to Apple or Android TV.
  • WIFI Baby 4.0 has HD quality images – WIFI Baby 3.0 has VGA.
  • WIFI Baby 4.0 has x8 zoom function, WIFI Baby 3.0 has x4 zoom.

Basically, the WIFI Baby 4 has a greater viewing angle, high definition images and double the zoom functionality. Remember however, that the zoom comes from the app and not from the camera lens.

So why does the WIFI Baby 3.0 rate better than the WIFI Baby 4.0?

Whilst customers experience problems with setting up both of these baby cameras, as well as problems with connectivity – they have more of these issues with the WIFI Baby 4.0, than they do with the WIFI Baby 3.0.

Customer support is very helpful in sorting out these problems, but customers still currently rate the WIFI Baby 3.0 higher than the WIFI Baby 4.0, despite the increased functionality in the newer version.

The WIFI Baby 3.0 is great for people who want to:

  • Keep an eye on your pets when you are away at work
  • Observe your baby when they are sleeping at night
  • Monitor your children or baby when you are away from home
  • Make sure your baby is safe with the babysitter
  • Ensure your elderly relative is safe at home
  • See what your pets get up to when they are home alone

What do customers say about the WIFI Baby 3.0 nanny cam?

WiFi Baby 3.0 - Wifi baby monitor Most customers give the WiFi Baby 3 camera a 4 or 5 star rating.

Positive comments concern the great picture quality (day and night) the durability of the camera and the prompt and friendly customer service who are happy to help with setting up your nanny cam, 24/7.

The main complaint with this WiFi Baby camera is in lost connections. It appears that a number of customers have had a problem with their connectivity and setting up this nanny cam at home.

This is a hard one because (to be honest) whilst most people do have a problem with setting up this camera, they have also found that customer support has been invaluable in fixing their problems.

Maybe some of the connectivity problems are due to the home internet service and not the WiFi Baby monitor?

WiFi Baby are clearly aware of the problem that many customers have with setting up this camera, so they promote their free 24/7 expert help in setting up your nanny cam – their customer support is US based.

Features I like about the WIFI Baby 3.0

With the WIFI Baby 3 you have an SD card slot, along with sound & motion alerts on your mobile devices. You also have 30 foot IR night vision, which is further than most other nanny cams. Customer support are also very helpful and the quality of the images and the audio is impressive as well.

Points to note about the WIFI Baby 3 nanny cam

With the WIFI Baby 3.0, you don’t have 2-way communication, but you can hear what is going on – you just can’t talk to your baby or children at the other end.

My thoughts on the WIFI Baby 3 nanny cam

This is a fairly expensive WiFi Baby camera and for that money the camera does not include 2-way communication, lullabies or a temperature sensor.

The one problem with this camera is the set up, but customer support appears to be very handy in this regard. Of those customers who gave a low rating to this nanny cam, it might have been because of their in-home connectivity problems, which from reading the more positive customer reviews, might not be the fault of this camera.

On the plus side and the reason why this nanny cam scores so highly is that you have high quality images and a fairly wide viewing angle. You also have an SD card slot – so you do not have the added expense of monthly cloud storage bills (like some nanny cams) and can easily store and share your videos and snaps.

So overall, the WIFI Baby 3.0 is a great little camera and if you are super focused on high quality images as your priority, then this is the baby cam for you!

High definition images

The Foscam Baby Monitor gives you high definition images and night time infrared vision, so you will have no problems receiving very clear images of your baby or children, regardless of the time of day or night.

Two-way communication

Keeping in touch with your family is easy with the two-way communication, you can chat to your children while they complete their homework, soothe your baby if he or she is upset and also talk to your partner or baby sitter.

You can do all of this from your office, the supermarket and anywhere around the world where you have an internet connection.

The Foscam Baby Monitor has awesome storage capabilities

Foscam Baby MonitorOne of the great features of the Foscam Baby Monitor is that you can save live feeds to an SD card (a function which many nanny cams do not have).

So you can show your friends and family snapshots of your baby at any time and keep them stored safely on your SD card.

You also have FREE cloud storage and cloud messaging with the Fosbaby – how good is that? If you want to check out alternative cloud storage facilities for your photos, this is a good resource.

Lullabies

The Fosbaby nanny cam also comes with pre-installed lullabies, which you can turn on remotely and you can also upload your own tunes as well. This makes it easy to record small messages for your baby, toddlers or children as well as your favorite lullabies or tunes and switch them on from your office or wherever you are in the world.

Temperature sensor

The Foscam Fosbaby is one of the few nanny cams that comes with an inbuilt temperature sensor. Some parents are not concerned about having a temperature sensor and the SIDS and KIDS website, do not recommend a specific ambient temperature that is best for all babies.

That being said, is is always good to know if the temperature is too high or too low in the nursery, so at least you can do something about it, if it becomes a problem.

Cloud Storage

With the Foscam Fosbaby nanny cam you receive a free 7 day trail of their free storage, after the trail ends you will need to pay a monthly or annual fee for access to their cloud storage. Otherwise, you can simply save all of your videos and images to the SD card.

Currently, a 7 day storage plan (loops after 7 days) is $4.99/month and a 30 day plan is $12.99/month. These prices may change over time.

Anything else?

You need an app for this camera to work, but you can obtain these free for both iPhones and Android phones. The Fosbaby can also be used on your iPod Touch, iPad, PC and other Android mobile devices.

You can chose either a lovely baby blue or beautiful girly pink color for your Fosbaby digital video baby monitor.

  • If you really want a digital zoom and a pan & tilt on your nanny cam, then check out the Piper NV or the Amcrest Pro HD nanny cams.

How can you use the Fosbaby?

  • Monitor your baby during the day when you are not at home
  • Chat with your partner, children or your baby in the nursery when you are at work
  • Keep an eye on the babysitter when you are away from home

Customer Reviews of the Fosbaby

Whilst some nanny cams have hundreds or thousands of reviews, the Fosbaby baby monitor by Foscam has only a few – around 60 or so reviews so far, so it is early days with this nanny cam.

Customers like the number of features on the Fosbaby and the ease of setup. There were also positive comments about the quality of the images, both in daylight and at night. Unfortunately, many other customers have problems with the setup process and with ongoing connectivity.

Summing up the Foscam Baby Monitor

Foscam Baby MonitorThe Fosbaby digital video nanny cam is a fabulous looking baby cam with lots of functions. You have 2-way communication, so you can chat to your toddler or soothe your baby when they are unsettled – a really important feature for most parents.

High definition images and 15ft IR night time vision makes observing your baby at night or during the day really easy. Don’t forget you can store all of your images and videos to an SD card and you have FREE cloud storage as a backup as well.

To top it all off you have an ambient temperature sensor, sound and motion alert notifications and you can upload your own messages, songs or lullabies as well. With data encryption and a one year warranty, the only functions the Fosbaby doesn’t have is a digital zoom and a pan & tilt feature.

So on face value, this is a great little nanny cam for less than $100 and it looks cute too!

The problem is that an increasing number of customers are having lots of problems with the Fosbaby, so it will pay you to check out the customer reviews yourself, before deciding to buy this nanny cam.

2-way communication

iBaby M3 babycamFor most parents, one of the most important features in any nanny cam is being able to talk to their baby, toddlers, children, partner or babysitter, at the same time as they are watching them via the camera.

So with the iBaby M3S nanny cam, you have high quality audio and vision, making it easy to keep in touch or just make sure that your family is safe at home. This makes it perfect for keeping an eye on the baby sitter when they are left alone with your children, your pets or even an elderly relative who s alone during the day.

IR Night time vision

With the iBaby monitor M3S, you have 16 foot of good night time vision, so that you can check on your baby or children during the night quite easily, even when the lights are not on.

Pan & Tilt

This is another great feature, because being able to remotely control the camera and move the lens around the room, increases the amount of the room you can view, so nothing gets missed. This makes it easy to follow your toddler scampering around the room or just keep an eye on everything, making sure everyone is OK at home.

With the iBaby M3S nanny cam, you have a 360 degree pan and a 70 degree tilt, which you can operate remotely from your smartphone.

iBaby M3- best nanny cam

Sound and motion alerts

As soon as there is any motion or sound at home, you can be instantly notified, so you can keep on top of everything at home. You can set the sensitivity levels for both the sound and motion, so that you are not constantly alerted for every little sound or movement at home.

Integrated social media posting

You can snap and share photo memories of your baby and share them with friends and family via the integrated Facebook and Twitter facility.  If you love using your social networks and hop on and off your social media accounts all day long, then this is a great feature to have, letting you easily share your happy snaps with your friends and family.

Multiple users

iBaby M3S babysitter camYou can also invite 4 friends to join you live and watch your baby’s first few steps or just to see how cute they are!

You can actually have an unlimited number of people invited to use the app and observe your baby, but only 4 can do so in real time together at once.

A trick with inviting friends to use the app is to ask your friends or relatives to sign up for the app first and then invite them to view your live footage, as once you have used an email in an invitation it cannot be used twice (so if they are not already registered on the app then they have to use another email address once you have sent them an invitation).

Customer Reviews

Customers like the clarity of the images, the fact that adding extra cameras is a simple process and also the ability to share snaps on social media, as well as the ease of set up.

There are plenty of newer models available now with more updated firmware, so it might be best to compare this nanny cam with other options, before making your final decision.

Conclusion

iBaby nanny camThe iBaby M3S baby monitor is a great little nanny cam with 2-way communication, pan and tilt, infra-red night vision and free access to the cloud.

You can also share snaps with friends and relatives via social media and give friends access to the app so you can share precious moments together.

The main problem is that the iBaby M3S and the iBaby M2 were designed for Apple mobile devices and the Android app is not very reliable at present. So if you have a new model iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, then these are a good choice, otherwise it might be better to read one of my other nanny cam reviews for a more appropriate baby cam for your Android mobile device.

Most customers really love this nanny cam, but some have had problems with the setup and ongoing connectivity, however these customers are in the minority – most people have no problems.

iBaby Monitor M6 WIFI Nanny Cam Review

iBaby M6 babysitter cam -M6 ibaby monitor

The M6 iBaby Monitor is a great way to keep your baby safe

This cute iBaby Monitor is a multiple award winning nanny cam with 2-way communication, pan & tilt, IR night time vision, sound and motion alerts, integrated social media sharing of images and videos, and lullabies as well.

Good points of the M6 iBaby Monitor

One of the great features of the iBaby monitor is the integrated social media facility, making it super easy to share your saved images and videos on Facebook and Twitter.

Another useful feature is that you can also have up to 4 people accessing the live feeds at any one time, so it is great for sharing your baby’s precious moments with grandparents or other family members.

You don’t actually have pre-loaded lullabies with the iBaby M6 nanny cam, but you can load your own lullabies or favorite songs, so that is a good feature as well.

Points to ponder

M6 iBaby monitor - i baby monitorYou cannot access the images and videos on a PC, as this nanny cam was designed only for mobile devices (which is usually not a huge problem for most people).

You only have cloud storage because the iBaby monitor does not have an SD card slot, but the storage is free so that is actually a good point.

Android users tend to have problems with the app, because the M6 iBaby monitor was initially designed to be compatible with Apple devices and the app is a bit ‘glitchy’ with Android devices.

Bottom Line of the M6 iBaby Monitor

The iBaby M6 is fairly expensive, so even though it has lots of great functions, it might be wise to read some of my other reviews for comparative purposes.

Review of the M6 iBaby Monitor/Nanny Cam

The iBaby M6 is a super little nanny cam winning the Mom’s Choice Awards, a Gold Winner of the 2015 National Parenting Publications and the Winner of 2015 Creative Child Product of the Year Award.

It has just about every function you need in a baby cam to keep your baby safe at home and while you are away at work. It doesn’t have every possible feature, but it does have a collection of great functions which suit just about everyone.

  • 2-way communication, so you can talk to your children, partner or babysitter
  • Pan & Tilt, so you can follow your toddler around the room
  • IR night time vision, so you can see clearly at night
  • Cloud storage, so your photos are always safe
  • Sound and motion alerts via email or SMS
  • Record your own lullabies or messages via the app
  • Integrated social sharing with Facebook and Twitter
  • Up to 4 people can view the live feeds at the same time

Pan & Tilt on the iBaby Monitor

The pan and tilt functionality is a great feature with 360 degree coverage and a 110 degree tilt. This means that with the touch of your finger, you can remotely move the camera lens to easily monitor all activity in the room or nursery.

IR Night Vision

With the iBaby M6 you also have high definition, infra-red night vision so you can keep an eye on your precious children during the evening and nighttime.

Lullabies on the M6 iBaby monitor

When you baby wakes, you can either play him or her a soothing lullaby of your choice (there are no lullabies pre-installed – you have to load your own) or you can calm and soothe your baby or toddler by talking to them in real time, using the two-way communications or even a prerecorded messaM6 iBaby monitor 0 i baby monitorge of your voice.

Totally mobile friendly

The iBaby M6 is easy to set up (just plug in and it automatically connects with your WIFI), it has free iOS and android apps and can be viewed from your iPad, iPod Touch or smart phone, from anywhere in the world, so long as you have an internet connection. Unfortunately, the iBaby M6 is designed only for mobile devices, so you cannot use it on a PC.

Alert notifications with the M6 iBaby monitor

You have both sound and motion detection and as soon as these are activated by your baby, you will receive an alert notification along with a series of snapshots or a short video of the event. You can immediately, talk to your baby and let them know that you love them.

Social sharing

The iBaby M6 even has integrated social sharing with Facebook and Twitter so you can take snapshots of your baby or record video and share your most memorable moments with friends and family.

You have the benefit of cloud storage and the iBaby M6 security is the very latest and most up to date, used by cloud technology.

Multiple users and cameras for the iBaby Monitor

Another plus with the iBaby M6 nanny cam is that apart from having an unlimited number of invited users accessing the live video, you can actually have up to 4 people accessing the monitor feed at the same time. This means that you and your friends or relatives can watch your baby crawling or just walking and savor those wonderful memories in real time.

You can also have an unlimited number of iBaby camerasM6 iBaby monitor - i baby monior added to the network and can switch between them easily by tapping the name of the camera on your phone.

If you really want a nanny camera that is powered by a battery, then check out the D-Link DCS-855L, which can be powered by an external USB battery and has similar features to the iBaby M6.

What do people say about the M6 iBaby monitor?

Around 60% of all customer reviews have given the iBaby monitor a 4 or 5 star rating. Customers like the high quality images and the fact that you can change the sensitivity of the sound and motion detectors.

They have found that the setup is easy and it is a huge bonus being able to watch your baby when you are working away from home. Another bonus is that there are no cloud fees, as with many other nanny cams.

The main problem for some customers is difficulty in the initial setup and with making it work on Android devices.

This seems strange as mostiBaby M6 WIFI nanny cam with audio customers didn’t have any problem with the setup, but then I realized that this nanny cam was designed for Apple devices.

The Android app is only new and is still in beta mode and whilst it is available on the Google Play Store, it appears that it does have some problems.

Other customers have had problems with connectivity and the signal dropping out, but that can be a problem with any of these WIFI cameras and does not appear to be a problem specific to the iBaby M6.

Additional information for the iBaby M6

The iBaby appiBaby M6 baby cam can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

You can add an unlimited number of cameras to the iBaby network, unlike other systems where you are limited to 4 cameras in total.

Summing up the M6 iBaby Monitor

iBaby M6 baby cam

Overall, the iBaby M6 is a super looking WIFI nannycam that has all of the functionality you need.

It stores the live feeds to the cloud – but cloud storage is free – unlike many other nanny cams, has Pan and Tilt and good quality HD images.

Many customers love this little nanny cam. A number of customers have had problems with connectivity dropping out and in the initial setting up of this nanny cam. The majority of customers however, are still more than happy with the iBaby M6 and the iBaby M6T.

Sound and Motion Detection

TrendNet baby camThe built in sound and motion detectors of this TrendNet camera alert you to any changes at home. So if your baby wakes up and is unsettled, you will receive an alert notification on your iOS or Android mobile device (sound or motion detection) and you can talk to your baby or play one of the five preset lullabies to soothe them, regardless of where you are in the world.

You even receive video clips with each notification so you can see exactly what is going on in the nursery or whichever room you have the nanny cam located.

Infrared night time vision

With this TrendNet WIFI Baby Cam you also have infrared night vision, so you can monitor your baby 24/7 and use the HD digital zoom (x4) to take a closer look at your baby as they are sleeping in their cot.

Every parent needs the IR night vision feature on their nanny cam, otherwise you won’t be able to check on your little one during the night time from a remote location.

Free Cloud Storage

TRENDnet WIFI nanny camAnother great feature is being able to store real-time video in the cloud, so you can easily share your videos and snaps with friends and family. You will be happy to know that this service is free (unlike many other nanny cams that require a subscription for cloud storage).

Cloud storage is a great feature, because if your nanny cam is stolen or breaks, all of your videos and special moments re still safe on the cloud. This model does not come with an SD card slot, but the TrendNet TV-IP745SIC model does have an SD card.

Compare the TrendNet TV-IP743SIC with the TrendNet TV-IP745SIC

The other major difference is that the TrendNet TV-IP745SIC has an SD card slot for local storage and the TV-IP743SIC does not.

Other differences are outlined in the table below. Since the TV-IP745SIC has more features than the TV-IP743SIC, it is more expensive – but not by much.

So the main point of difference between these two nanny cams is that one has an SD slot and the other doesn’t.

Both baby cams have a x4 zoom and play lullabies, but the TV-IP745SIC also has a temperature sensor. Neither camera has pan and and tilt functions.

This means that if you are not worried about storing snaps or video, other than in the cloud, and a temperature sensor is not important to you, then the cheaper option might be best for your situation.

The more expensive model also has a greater IR range during low light condition, better image resolution and a wider viewing angle.

Consumer Reviews

TRENDnet WiFi Baby Cam TV-IP743SICOnline customer reviews for the TrendNet TV-IP743SIC are quite mixed with some customers loving this little nanny cam and others having lots of connectivity issues.

On the positive side, customers do like the easy setup and the fact that they can talk to their older children remotely, while they are doing their homework or having their evening meal.

They also like checking in to make sure their baby is safe and sound, the quality of the real-time images and the clear night vision.

Conclusion

TRENDnet WiFi Baby Cam TV-IP743SICSo far, there are only around 100 online customer reviews for these TrendNet cameras with around 50% being very happy with how they work.

However, the TV-IP743SIC is very reasonably priced with the main difference between this model and the more expensive version (TV-IP745SIC) is that the other model has a SD card slot and a temperature sensor.

So if you want an affordable nanny cam – either of these two nanny cams will do. If you aren’t fussy about storing images and video on your PC or anywhere else, then the cheaper model is fine. On the other hand, if you want to store videos locally, then you need the more expensive model with an SD card slot.

The main problem I have with these two TrendNet WIFI cameras is that so many people have problems with the apps – connections seem to be difficult and keep dropping out all of the time.

So whilst everyone loves the camera, the images and its functionality, it appears that the app for this camera is the main source of contention.

Dropcam Pro Review

Dropcam Pro android

You can switch the microphone off on the Dropcam Pro – essential when your State forbids the illegal recording of audio.

Make sure your baby is safe at home with the Dropcam Pro

The Dropcam Pro has lots of great features that will make keeping an eye on your little ones easy, whether you are at work, at a conference or working overseas.

This is a cloud based WiFi nanny cam, which keeps you in contact with your children, family, spouse, babysitter, elderly relative or even your dogs.

It has 2-way communication, so you can talk to your children or partner remotely, infra-red night vision so you can easily monitor your baby or child during the night, a great zoom (x8) and even an enhancement function.

  • 2-way communication.
  • IR night time vision.
  • Optical zoom lens.
  • Wide viewing angle.
  • Sound and motion alerts via email or SMS.
  • Cloud storage.

So you can have a clear view of the nursery from your office in the city for example, and then zoom in for a closer look, enhancing the image so that it always remains in focus. You also receive alerts on your mobile device, if sound or motion is detected and you can set these alerts yourself.

2-way communication

If you are using this surveillance camera as a nanny cam, then the 2-way communication is a very useful feature. You can talk directly to your children, spouse, babysitter or elderly relative and you can even sing a lullaby to your baby to help them settle and drift off to sleep.

IR-night time vision

With the IR night time vision, you can see clearly for up to 25 feet in low light levels. So you can keep an eye on your baby or children while they are sleeping, checking in with them when they are awake during the night.

This is perfect if you are working away from home, particularly if you are in a different time zone, because you can check up on them at any time.

Optical zoom lens

You have a x8 optical zoom so you can move in close for a really good look at what is going on and even take photos or videos of the action. Many nanny cams don’t have a zoom option, so this is a great additional feature.

Wide viewing angle

The new Dropcam Pro WIFI camera does not have a pan and tilt facility, but it does have a very large 130 degree wide viewing angle which is just as good and lets you see most of the room anyway.

Sound and motion alerts

You receive motion and sound alerts to your smartphone or iPad including a snapshot of the activity, even if you don’t subscribe to their CVR service. If you have subscribed you also receive a link directly to the video of the activity.

Easy installation

One of the great features of the Dropcam Pro is that you can set it up without a computer. This only works if you have a compatible iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch but if you do, the Dropcam setup is even easier, because you can use Bluetooth.

Since the Dropcam Pro works via WIFI, you can view your live feeds anywhere in the world so long as you have WIFI in your location. Of course, you can also view the recorded videos via the cloud as well, if you have a CVR subscription.

Cloud storage

With the Dropcam Pro WIFI camera, you can view your live feed from any web browser, iOS or Android device. However, if you want to view previous Dropcam video footage, you have to pay a cloud video recording subscription (CVR) which enables you to view either the last 7 or 30 days of recorded footage, depending on your subscription.Dropcam Pro - nanny camera

This subscription also gives you the ability to make video clips of your favorite moments and you can store these on your local devices.

You can decide if you want to subscribe during the Dropcam setup, as you will be asked if you want a CVR subscription – and you may agree to do so or decline as you see fit (if you are undecided, there is a free 14 day trial on the CVR 7 day plan).

Subscription is $9.95 per month for 7 days of recorded video and $29.95 for 30 days 9at the time of writing this review). If you do decide to subscribe, you receive a discount for each additional camera you add to the system.

Data encryption

Dropcam security uses AES encryption for remote data transfer and remote viewing. Commonly known as “bank-level’ security, this makes sure your live and stored video is safe and secure.

Your video is encrypted before it is sent to the cloud and then streamed securely to your mobile device using SSL encryption. Dropcam also supports the following wireless security protocols: WEP (40 bit, 128 bit) and WPA, WPA2 (TKIP, AES).

Additional cameras

You can also add additional cameras to the system and view all displays via one CVR account (you don’t need an additional CVR subscription if you want to add more cameras). All you need to do is select which camera you want to view and then select either full screen mode or view all camera feeds at once.

Mounting

The Dropcam Pro can be mounted to a wall or placed on a shelf and comes with a wall mount fitting or a steel stand as well. This gives you a couple of different mounting options, so you can always be sure of receiving good coverage of the nursery.

Dropcam Pro and NEST

Dropcam Pro now works with NEST Protect, so if smoke or carbon monoxide is detected in your home, the cameras turn on automatically and you receive an alert notification and aDropcam Pro snap shot, even if you do not subscribe to the CVR.

This is a great additional safety feature, that none of the other surveillance cameras or nanny cams possess.

There is also an Away/Home function where the alerts and cameras turn off if you set the Dropcam to “Home” and turn on, if you switch it to ‘Away” – another fabulous safety feature.

The Dropcam Pro also works with the Nest Thermostat’s Home and Away feature.

Additional features

This camera has a neat feature that turns the camera on when you leave and off when you return, it’s called Location Aware. You can also schedule the camera to turn on and off at set times or do so remotely using your mobile device.

Dropcam Pro setup

Otherwise you need a Mac or a Windows PC for the Dropcam setup and then you can easily connect the Dropcam toDropcam setup - Pro mounted on wall your WIFI network using your computer or iOS mobile device.

Simply plug the camera into the USB port on your computer and it will auto install itself without any need to upload drivers or anything else.

You can then unplug the camera from the USB port, plug it into the mains power and the camera communicates wirelessly with your computer. To view the live feeds from a mobile device you then need to download the app from the Google Playstore or Apple store.

Customer Reviews

Around 70% of all customer Dropcam reviews give this camera a 4 or 5 star rating. Customers love the Dropcam Pro, because it is so easy to set up and the images of the live recordings are crystal clear. It is very reliable, has excellent low light visibility and the audio is very clear as well.

If you don’t have the CVR subscription you can’t hop into the stored recordings to review past feeds, you have to pay extra for this service.

However, if you are not concerned about viewing past coverage and you only want to view live feeds, then you don’t need to pay extra for CVR storage and the lack of this feature won’t be a problem to you. If past coverage is important to you however, then please check out my other reviews, as this surveillance camera is not for you!

Dropcam vs Dropcam Pro

The new Dropcam Pro is the updated version of the classical Dropcam monitor. The optical system has been redesigned and is now has an all glass lens (most lenses are part glass and plastic), but it is the glass lenses that are the best.

The new Dropcam Pro camera has an increased 130 degree field of view compared to the 107 degrees of the Dropcam HD, which negates the need for a pan and tilt function, as you can see all of the room anyway.

The new camera of the Pro is much more sensitive to low light conditions and captures twice the amount of light as the earlier model.

Dropcam Pro vs Dropcam HD

The images from the Dropcam HD are clear, but from the Dropcam Pro are much crisper with more clarity and natural lighting. Overall, the image resolution and clarity is good in the Dropcam HD, but excellent in the Dropcam Pro.

Another great feature of the Pro is not only the x8 zoom (it is only x4 in the HD version), but also the enhancement function. So you can zoom in and enhance the resolution of the live image. This results in a much better quality image than with the Dropcam HD (which is a great camera as well).

Top all of that off with Dual band WIFI for less interference and a Bluetooth setup and the Dropcam Pro has everything you need in a quality home surveillance/nanny cam.

Since there is hardly any difference in the price between the Dropcam HD and the Dropcam Pro, the answer to the Dropcam vs Dropcam Pro debate is that it makes sense to go for the Pro version because it has higher quality images, audio and a wider viewing angle.

What I like about the DropCam Pro nanny cam

The Dropcam Pro has high quality images and an enhancement mode for even crisper images, very clear audio and is pretty easy to set up for most customers.

Points to consider with the Dropcam Pro nanny cam

The main problem with the Dropcam Pro is that you must subscribe to their cloud storage if you want access to previous recorded footage …otherwise you have to make do with live coverage.

Summing Up

Dropcam Pro Review home security cameraSome customers have noted that the customer service has dropped since Dropcam combined with NEST, as has the quality of the past recordings stored in your CVR account.

However, just about 75% of all customers agree that this is a super little camera with the only common complaint being that to access past recordings or to save them to a local device, you have to pay a monthly CVR fee.

So if you want a very good camera with excellent image quality in daytime and nighttime and you don’t have a problem with only having live video streaming, then this is a super top of the range camera. If you are happy to pay the CVR subscription, then you have the best of both worlds – but remember you need a US credit card to activate this service.

As a nanny cam, the Dropcam Pro gives you the ability to zoom in close to your baby when they are sleeping to make sure they are safe and comfortable and to talk to them or soothe them via the 2-way communication feature. If you use the CVR as well (for a monthly fee), then you can save your favorite clips and share them with your friends and family.

D-Link DCS-930L Review

DCS-930L nanny cam with audio

You can disable the audio on the D-Link DCS-930L camera – a feature that is important in States where you need permission to record audio (advanced set up manual).

Protect your family and baby with the D-Link DCS-930L nanny cam

The D-Link DCS-930L is one of the most affordable nanny cams on the market. It is  only a basic model, without many of the features of more expensive models, but if you have a small budget, then this is a great option for your family.

My D-Link DCS-930L Review

Are you looking for the best nanny cams to protect your family? Well. if you need a low priced nanny cam option, then the D-Link DCS-930L might be the choice for you. It is simple to setup and does not need a PC to run, but you do need a computer to set the system up.

  • Optical zoom (x 4).
  • Email or SMS notifications when motion is detected.
  • Easy to setup.
  • Cloud storage.
  • 1-way audio.
  • Basic but very functional camera.

One of the big pluses of this nanny camera is that there are no monitoring fees and no contracts. You can view your family, children or baby in real-time via your smartphone or iPad with the free mydlink app, receive motion alerts and with 1-way audio, you can hear what is going on at home as well.

The main drawback of this D-Link camera is that it does not record videos for you to watch at a later date. The flip side of this is that you do have access to live/remote monitoring via the Cloud which is accessible on any PC or mobile device with an internet connection (no additional fees). Also, if you set the motion detector, you will have snapshots of the triggering event.

Note that this model does not have infra-red night vision, so if that is one of your requirements, then you need to upgrade to a different D-Link model. I have included information on suitable models later in this review.

 Customer Reviews

Just around 50% of all customer reviews give the D-Link DCS930L nanny cam a 4 or 5 star rating. The overwhelming opinion of customers is that all of the D-Link security cameras are very easy to set up and operate. Other good points include the clear video images and the value for money.

One of the common complaints is that the power cord is only 4 foot long (but that is easily fixed with an extension cord). Most other issues concern problems in setting up the camera, however the majority of people don’t have any problems with the set up at all.

Comparing the D-Link nanny cams

Other models available from D-Link (in order of price, from lowest to highest):

  • D-Link DCS-931L: This model appears to be the same as the D-Link DCS-930L, except that it has a WIFI extender – which boosts your network signal and helps to eliminate dead spots.
  • D-Link DCS-932L: This model has infra-red night vision technology up to 16ft from the camera. It has motion detection, but not sound detection.
  • D-Link DCS-942L: This model can save video footage to a Micro SD card (up to 32GB), has infra-red night vision and can record 5x more footage than a MJPEG.
  • DCS-2132L: This model has HD 720p resolution up to 30fps, remote pan and tilt, infra-red night vision, enhanced motion detection, two-way communication and a Micro SD card slot for up to 32GB.
  • DCS-2330L: All of the previous models were for indoor use – this is the only model suitable for outdoor use and is designed to handle any season. HD video 720p resolution, can save to a Micros SD card (32GB) and has infra-red night vision.

All of these models require a power outlet and have live video feeds. All are WIFI enabled and all stream video to the Cloud, enabling you to access live video feeds remotely.

Features I like about the D-Link DCS-930L nanny cam

The DCS-903L comes with an optical zoom, motion detectors and free cloud storage. It is also very easy to set up, customer support are very helpful and it is at a very good price point.

Points to note about the DCS-930L nanny cam

For the price, you can’t expect all the bells and whistles, so it does not have 2-way communication, but you can hear what is happening on the other end. It also doesn’t have IR night vision, pan & tilt or an SD card slot and you only have live video, not past footage.

Conclusion

D-Link DCS-930L reviewThe D-Link DCS-930L surveillance camera is suitable to be used as a nanny cam, pet cam or for home security. It is the cheapest in this particular range and is a good option if you are on a budget.

Looking at all of the online reviews, the main complaint about the D-Link surveillance cameras is that they are difficult to set up and the WIFi drops out frequently. Since these are advertised as easy to setup cameras, this is surprising, but on the other hand, most customers don’t have any problems with the initial set up.

So overall, most issues are with setting up these cameras, so if you are tech-savvy, the D-Link surveillance cameras might be suitable for your needs. There is after all, a good number of different D-Link models with differing functionality, across a variety of price ranges.

WIFI/Wireless communications

The great feature about this WIFI video camera is that you can monitor what is happening at home, from anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection.

Use it on your mobile device – smart phone, iPad or on your PC, and as long as you have WIFI, you can instantly access live feeds, take snaps of precious moments and control the camera remotely. You can even talk to your children to check up on them and reassure them or sign your baby a lullaby to help them drift off to sleep.

Micro SD storage

Calvary IPC10010 wifi surveillance camera and nanny camWith the micro SD slot on the Calvary IPC10010 nanny cam you can easily store all of your favorite images and live videos and transfer them to your PC for even more secure storage.

You can use a 32GB Micro SDHC with this nanny cam.

So whenever you check in with your family, you can take a few snaps and keep them forever. This means that even when you are working away from home you don’t miss out on what’s happening at home.

2-way communication

This is a great feature and a must-have for any nanny cam. With 2-way communication you can talk to your partner at home or even the baby sitter. You can also talk to your children when they are working on their homework (if you have more than one nanny cam networked in your home) or chat to your partner when they are feeding or changing your baby in the nursery.

IR night time vision

With the Cavalry IPC10010 nanny cam you have day and 8 night infrared LEDs with a 16 foot range, so you can even monitor your baby or children during the evening or night time from anywhere in the world.

This is a great feature to have and 16 feet is a fair distance, so you can easily see across the nursery to the cot – if the nanny cam is on a shelf across the room.

High quality images

Calvary IPC10010 nanny camThe video images are crisp and high quality and the infrared light gives you 24/7 secure monitoring. The resolution of the images is 1280 x 720 with CMOS 1/4 inch 1.3 million pixel resolution images at 30 frames per second. You also have auto white balance and auto exposure for perfect images at any time of the day or night.

Pan & Tilt

This is a super feature in a nanny cam, because you can move the camera around remotely and catch your little one scampering across the room or follow your partner as they move around the nursery. The camera rotates horizontally 355 degrees and elevates vertically 270 degrees – so you have a really wide angle of view.

Alert notifications

With the Cavalry IPC10010 nanny cam you only have motion alerts on your smartphone or mobile device, you don’t have sound notifications.

If you are using the Cavalry camera for home surveillance this is most probably OK, otherwise read my iBaby M6 review, as this is the highest scoring nanny cam that also gives you sound notifications, although it doesn’t have an SD card slot.

On the other hand, if you want an SD card slot and sound notifications as well, then check out my D-lLink DCS-855L review (the DCS-855L also has a digital zoom, plays lullabies and has an ambient temperature sensor).

Who uses the Cavalry IPC10010 nanny cam?

Anyone who needs to keep a close eye on what is happening at home, will benefit from installing the Cavalry IPC10010 nanny cam. You can use it to:

  • Make sure your baby is safe at home when you are in work.
  • Talk to your baby, children or partner when you are away from the home.
  • Keep in touch with the babysitter.
  • Monitor your baby at night when they are asleep in the nursery.
  • Keep an eye on an elderly relative in the home.
  • Watch your pets when they are home alone.
  • Use as a nanny cam or home surveillance camera.

What do customers think about the Cavalry IPC10010?

Most customers give these surveillance cameras a 4 or 5 star rating. Comments include “very easy to set up”, “excellent video quality”, “gives a good view with my cellphone anywhere I am” and “even a child could set this up”.

Customers also note that they are happy with the customer service, as they respond quickly and are very helpful.

Other great benefits include the ability to view your recordings on your PC using a VLC Media Player or download the ‘View Anytime’ app from Google Play Store for mobile devices. The nanny cam can also be easily set up in a hotel room to protect your children when you pop out of the room for a few minutes.

Some customers feel that these cameras do not have a lot of options and that they are best for the novice user.

However, on the plus side is the fact that the Cavalry is easy to set up – you just plug it in and it works – you don’t have to configure IP addresses, port forwarding or deal with complicated instructions. I also noted from the comments that it cannot be used with a Mac, but apparently it can work with Linux.

IPC10010 vs the IPC10020 and the IPC10030

Cavalry sell the IPC10010 Camera, the IPC10020 and the IPC10030 Camera. The only difference I can see between these three models is that the IPC10020 comes with a  bonus 16GB Micro SDHC  Class 10 card, whereas the IPC10010 does not and the IPC10030 actually comes with a 32GB SDHC card.

Features I like about the Cavalry IPC10010 nanny cam

A very affordable nanny cam with excellent video quality even during the night. Setup is really fast and pain free, app is easy to use, there is no expensive cloud storage (because you have a micro SD card), pan and tilt is a great feature and customer support are very helpful.

Points to note about the Cavalry IPC10010 nanny cam

Does not go work well with Blue Iris or other commonly used DVR software or port forwarding, but since it is designed to be an easy ‘plug and play’ set up – you don’t need any of these other complicated steps, including fiddling with IP addresses to setup and configure the nanny cam.

There are also not a lot of options or controls, but this can be a good feature making it much easier to set up and use. It also only has motion detection and alerts, not sound detection, which would be a nice added feature for a nanny cam.

Concluding thoughts on the Cavalry IPC10100

Cavalry IPC10010 nanny cam with audioJust about every customer goes out of their way to state that this camera is really easy to set up and use, which is very refreshing because so many other brands are very difficult to set up in the home.

The Cavalry IPC10010 WIFI surveillance camera is suitable for use as a nanny cam, for surveillance at your place of business, to check up on your pets or elderly relatives while you are away at work or for home security.

So if you are looking for a versatile and easy to set-up, home surveillance camera, then the three Cavalry cameras are all ideal, you just have to decide if you want the one with a 16GB (IPC10020) SD card, a 32GB SD card (IPC10030) or none at all (IPC10010).

For the price points, all three of these nanny cams are well worth the money. They are reliable, work well and the customer support is exemplary. Well worth a look.

DCS-5222L compared with the DCS-5020L Model

In comparison to the DCS-5222L, there are a few important differences with the DCS-5020L nanny camera.

→ The DCS-5020L has a WIFI extender (which is important if you have lots of dead spots) and the DCS-5222L does not.

→ The DCS-5222L has a SD card slot and the DCS-5020L does not.

→ The DCS-5222L has 2-way audio and the DCS-5020L does not.

→ The DCS-5020L has sound detection and the DCS-5222L does not.

→ The zoom on the DCS-5020L is x4, but on the DCS-5222L it is x10.

→ The viewing angle on the DCS-5222L is much wider than on the DCS-5020L.

Consumer Reviews

More than 50% of customer reviews give the DCS-5222L a 4 or 5 star rating. Most customers say that the quick start-up instructions work well, and it is a reliable and easy to operate security camera. Accessibility is also easy on mobile devices and it has good video quality during both the day and night.

There are some problems with the initial setup and ongoing connectivity, and some customers have found that the pan & tilt function triggers a motion event, sending them repeated notification emails and filling up their SD card with video clips.

Conclusion

D-Link DCS-5222L home security camera and nanny cam with audioThe DCS-5222L can be used as both a nannycam and a security camera, depending on the functionality you want in your camera. If sound detection is important to you, then you may prefer the DCS-5020L, but if 2-way audio and a SD card are more important, then you might want the DCS-5222L.

Overall, the customer reviews for these two cameras indicate that the setup is fairly straight forward, however at the same time – the setup is one of the main negative complaints about these cameras. It seems that if you are going to have problems, then you are more likely to have problems with the set up than any other factor.

Some customers have also reported a glitch where the pan & tilt function triggers motion notification alerts and filling up their SD card with video clips of these ‘events’. If you are considering purchasing the DCS 5222L camera, it might be best to compare it with other options before making your final decision.

Customer Reviews

Most customers give the DCS 5029L security camera a 4 or 5 star rating. Positive comments include the friendly and helpful customer support, easy setup, and that it works well on android smart phones and has great image quality.

Whilst there are not many negative comments about the DCS 5029L, some customers do have problems setting up this nanny cam, although customer support is very helpful.

Another potential problem is that the built in speaker isn’t very loud, so if you want to use the 2-way communication on the DCS-5029L, you might need to plug it into an external speaker.

Features I like about the DCS-5029L nanny cam

Having SD storage is a great feature, as is the pan & tilt and digital zoom. Customer support is also very helpful, but most people don’t have any problems setting up the DCS-5029L nanny cam. You can also turn the audio recording feature off, which is great if you live in States where this is a problem.

Points to note about the DCS-5029L nanny cam

The built in speaker isn’t very loud, so most people find that they need to plug it into an external speaker. You also don’t have sound alerts, so if your baby cries you won’t be able to receive alert notifications.

Conclusion

DCS-5029L wifi nanny cam with sound and motionWhilst most people don’t have problems setting these cameras up, the most common complaint was about this very problem. It seems that you either have a very easy time with the setup of these D-Link cameras or a very difficult time.

Of those that do have problems with the setup process, most of these customers received help from customer support and the process was completed with no further problems.

However, if the DCS-5029L isn’t for you and you still want a very affordable WIFI surveillance camera that can be easily used as a nanny cam with night time vision, motion detection, pan and tilt and a zoom, then the cheaper DCS-5009L might be suitable for you.

DCS-800L compared with DCS-820L and the DCS-825L

There are a few differences between these three particular models:

  • The DCS-800L is the basic model, so it does not have a SD card slot for local storage, remote pan and tilt or a temperature sensor
  • The DCS-820L has all the features of the DCS-800L, but in addition it has a SD card slot (for recordings triggered by motion or sound and snapshots)
  • The DCS-825L has everything that the DCS-820L has, but also has a temperature sensor for the ambient air (and email or SMS alerts if the temperature changes)
  • The DCS-800L and the DCS-820L both have 480p video resolution whilst the DCS-825L has HD 720p
  • With the DCS-820L and the DCS-825L you can use the SD card and upload your own selection of lullabies (with the DCS-800L you have to use the stock lullabies)

The DCS-850L and the DCS-855L

These two modeD-Link nanny camls are more expensive than the three previous models, because as you increase in price, the resolution quality improves and you have more features.

The DCS-850L does not have an SD slot card, so it is similar to the basic model in that regard, but it does have remote pan and tilt and a temperature sensor. It also has 480P resolution.

The DCS-855L, is the top of the range and has all the required features along with HD 720P resolution.

What do customers think about the D-Link DCS-800L nanny cam?

Online customer reviews are quite mixed about the D-Link nanny cams with most customers finding that they are great in themselves, but that the app is a problem to use and they keep loosing connectivity.

Summing up the D-Link DCS-800L baby cam

D-Link DCS nanny camThe D-Link DCS-800L is the most basic of the five D-Link nanny cam models, but even so, it has a digital zoom, which is a great feature in a basic entry nanny cam.

The main problems with this nanny cam are with the initial set up of the D-Link cameras and in maintaining connectivity. However, the cameras themselves are pretty well liked, if there are no connectivity issues!

The DCS-800L is the cheapest of the D-Link nanny cams and is the most basic model. As you move from the DCS-800L to the 820L and then the 825L, you also step up in price. This is because you increase the functionality of the nanny cam, but they all seem to have the same problems, because they all use the same app.
