Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor

Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor

Peace of mind with the Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor

The Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor is a great little device that has all the functionality you need for a good price. With two-way communication, night time vision, power saving mode, ambient temperature monitoring, a feeding alarm, voice activation and a 960 ft range, this baby monitor is well worth considering for your home.

The 2.4GHz FHSS Technology provides high definition video, as well as an interference-free and private connection.

  • 2.4″ LCD screen
  • Two-way communication
  • Night time vision (15 ft)
  • Ambient temperature monitoring
  • VOX power saving mode
  • Crystal clear sound
  • Built in music player
  • Lullabies
  • Zoom
  • Rechargeable batteries (up to 24 hrs)
  • No WIFI needed
  • 960 foot range

How do you use the Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor?

Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor

First of all, the Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor doesn’t have remote pan and tilt, so you will need to manually move the camera around to get the best pictures of the nursery and then leave it in that position as you move around the house. You also can’t add other cameras to the system – the handheld monitor only operates with the one camera.

Having said all that, this is still a very  popular baby monitor that has a long 24 hour battery life when in standby mode (3 to 5 hours in normal mode) and a good range (960 foot).

Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor

To use the Anmade Wireless Video Baby Monitor all you need to do is to charge the handset and plug the camera into the mains power outlet, follow the simple instructions to pair the two devices and you are good to go.

You can set up alarm notifications for temperature changes in the nursery, as well as for when your little one wakes in their cot. When you hear that they are awake, you can play a lullaby and chat to them, as you make your way into the nursery. These are great features at night  – when you need to wake up before racing to the nursery – as playing a lullaby helps them to remain calm for a few minutes giving you time to race to the bathroom and then the nursery!

Honrane Baby Monitor

The handheld monitor requires lithium ion batteries to operate and lasts for up to 20 hours in VOX mode and 3 to 4 hours in normal mode. The camera needs to be plugged into the mains power to work.

You don’t need to hook it up to your home’s WIFI system for the Honrane Baby Monitor to operate, so if your internet reception is poor, you can still use this baby monitor. If you set the alerts to only notify you when sound is detected, you can make the most out of the handset’s battery life.

You can move the angle of the camera manually (360 degrees horizontally, 45 degrees diagonally and 90 degrees vertical), but it doesn’t have a pan & tilt function that you can operate remotely via the handset.

At night the IR night vision automatically turns on and you can see up to 15 feet away from the camera on your handheld monitor. You can also set an alarm to notify you if the temperature of the nursery changes by a set amount.

When you little one wakes, you can play them a lullaby via the handset and you can also talk to them or sing them a song – as you make your way to their room.

DBPOWER Baby Monitor – Pan and Tilt and Zoom

DBPower Baby Monitor

The DBPower Baby Monitor expands to 4 cameras!

There are not many baby monitors that let you use up to 4 cameras with one handheld monitor , for most its just one camera to one monitor  – so the DBPower Baby Monitor is definitely worth a second look.

  • Easy to operate
  • Room temperature monitoring
  • 2-way communication
  • 4.3″ LCD screen
  • VOX power saving mode
  • Manual & automatic video recording
  • IR night vision (up to 15 ft)
  • Pan-Tilt-Zoom
  • Night light
  • Supports up to 32GB TF card
  • Supports up to 4 cameras (split screen)
  • Sound alerts
  • Range up to 1000 ft
  • No WIFI needed

How do you use the DBPOWER Baby Monitor?

DBPower Baby Monitor

The pan-tilt-zoom function lets you remotely control the angle of the cameras from anywhere within the  1000 ft range of the camera (270 degrees horizontal x 110 degrees vertical). This means that if your little one is racing across the floor of the nursery, you can catch them on video and head back into the house to recuse them!

You can also make video recordings when they are sleeping, learning to walk or say their first words and load them to your social media page for everyone to share. The automatic night time vision lets you clearly see your little one during the night on the handheld monitor and if they wake during the day or night, you can set it to send you a notification.

DB Power Baby Monitor

You can also comfort them when they wake using the two-way communication or turn on a lullaby while you head off to the nursery. If you want to maintain a certain temperature in the nursery you can set the monitor to alarm when the ambient temperature increases or decreases outside of your set range.

Adding more cameras to your home is easy and you only need to use the one handheld monitor to view all four cameras at one time. This is great when your little one starts scampering around the house!

The handheld monitor uses a lithium rechargeable battery that lasts for up to 9 hours, but the camera needs to be plugged into the mains power to operate.

VTech DM221-2 Digital Audio Baby Monitor – Review

VTech DM221-2 digital audio baby monitor

Is the VTech DM221-2 digital audio baby monitor worth buying?

First of all, the VTech DM221-2 digital audio baby monitor is currently less than $50 and comes with 2 parent units, so things are looking very positive. Then you have DECT 6.0 technology giving you interference free, quality sound and it gets even better.

Don’t forget that with an audio baby monitor you can’t see your baby, just hear him or her. If you want video capabilities, then you can read my review of the top rated video baby monitor here.

Let’s see what other features the VTech DM221-2 digital audio baby monitor offers:

  • Wireless baby monitor for in the home.
  • Two parents units and one baby monitor.
  • DECT 6.0 for crystal clear transmissions.
  • Secure transmissions.
  • Backlit display on parent unit.
  • 5 level visual sound indicator.
  • Sound muting.
  • 2-way talk-back communication.
  • Parent unit uses rechargeable batteries (18 hours max time).
  • Can use 2 x AAA batteries in the parent unit instead of rechargeable ones.
  • Comes with a hands free belt clip.
  • Maximum range outdoors is 1000 ft and indoors is 150 ft.
  • Out of range and low battery alarm.
  • The language is preset to English, but can be switched to French or Spanish for all screen displays.
  • The handle loop on the baby monitor doubles as a soothing night light.
  • Select the vibrating sound alert instead of just muting the volume.
  • 1 year limited manufacturer’s warranty.

VTech DM221-2 Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor

2-way communication

One of the great features of this baby monitor is that you have 2-way talk-back communication. This means that when your baby wakes and you can hear him or hear over the parents unit, you can talk to them to let them know you are on your way.

You can even sing them a little melody or lullaby if them seem upset as well. As your baby grows and begins to chitter chatter, you can respond to them and start having a little conversation with them. Don’t forget that you can also talk to your partner if they are in the nursery as well, making 2 way communication a wonderful feature in the VTech DM221-2 digital audio baby monitor.

What is DECT 6.0 technology?

VTech DM221-2 Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby MonitorDECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications and is the standard used for creating cordless telephone systems. This standard is used in Europe, Asia and Australia, but the regulations around radio frequencies in North America caused the DECT 6.0 to be created.

DECT 6.0 is used only in the USA and Canada, and the difference between DECT and DECT 6.0 is in the radio frequencies. So two products cannot be used on the same system, if they use different DECT technologies (DECT and DECT 60.0).

As you already know, DECT 6.0 is used for baby monitors as well as cordless phones and operates on the 1.9 GHZ frequency. Apart from their frequencies, DECT 6.0 and DECT are the same. However, if you live in Australia, don’t buy a product with DECT 6.0 technology, because they use DECT there and if you live in the USA or Canada, make sure that you buy DECT 6.0 technology..

What I like about the VTech DM221-2 digital audio baby monitor

vtech-dm221-2-digital-audio-baby-monitor-6I like that the VTech DM221-2 Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor comes with two parent units, so you can have one recharging or being used by your partner, while you have the other clipped to your belt.

I also like that the parent unit does use rechargeable batteries, rather than normal batteries, because these units can really eat into the batteries.

I also find that the battery life is really great, so you don’t have to keep recharging all the time and the audio is crystal clear with no interference from WiFi devices in the home.

The little nightlight in the carry handle of the baby monitor is also cute, giving you enough light to see your baby sleeping easily, but not enough to be glaring.

Customer reviews

Online customer reviews indicate that the vibration feature, where you can set the parent unit to vibrate if it picks up any sounds from the baby monitor is a well-liked. Many people use this baby monitor to keep an eye on their elderly relative and find that it is perfect.

Summing up the VTech DM221-2 digital audio baby monitor

If you want a stand alone system at home to help you keep an eye on your little one, then the VTech DM221-2 digital audio baby monitor might be just what you need.

It has great features, is well-liked by customers and is at a very good price point. If you want to compare it with the VTech DM112-2 baby monitor, then this one has a sound vibration feature, operates on rechargeable batteries and has the option of French or Spanish as well – and it doesn’t cost much more than the DM112-2.

VTech DM112-2 Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor Review

VTech 2 Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor

The VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor

The VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor is an audio monitor, so it is different to a video monitor. This means that you can’t see your baby on a video screen on the parent unit, you can only hear them (and it doesn’t have 2-way communication).

This is a basic model that actually works well, but if you want a video baby monitor that also has 2 way communication and a video screen, then check out my review of the Samsung SEW 3043W video baby monitor.

  • WiFi friendly DECT.
  • Wireless and portable digital baby monitor.
  • Digital transmission provides superior security.
  • Crystal clear transmissions.
  • 1-way audio from baby unit to parental unit.
  • 1000 ft (300 m) range outdoors and 160 feet (50 m) indoors.
  • Volume control (up or down).
  • Sound muting.
  • 5 level LED visual sound monitor.
  • LED screen back light on parent unit.
  • Belt clip for parent units.
  • Out of range indicator.
  • Low battery light on parent unit.
  • ON/OFF indicator on all units.
  • Power light on all units.
  • Requires 2 AAA alkaline batteries for the parent units (not included).
  • Baby unit must be plugged into a power outlet.
  • User manual.

You can check out the VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor on Amazon here.

What I like about the VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor

VTech DM112-2 Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor With Two Parent Units_large_image_attachmentYou might find it strange, but I like that this is a basic model at a low introductory price with none of the bells and whistles of more expensive baby monitors.

This means that it is very affordable for most moms and dads and has enough functionality to be worth the price.

The parent units can be plugged into the main power when you don’t need to carry them around with you, but then they switch to battery power when you do need to use them. So you have portable parent monitors (you have two, which is another plus) that run on both batteries and mains power.

The transmissions are crystal clear because it uses DECT 6.0 technology which is the latest cordless platform, giving you an improved range without having to increase the power usage. This technology also gives you superior sound quality without the interference so often found with wireless networks.

You can also increase or decrease the volume on the parent unit, even mute it if you are in company or watching the TV. The visual sound bars then take over, letting you easily see if there is noise in the nursery without the sound needing to be switched on as well.

Then you have a belt clip so you can keep your baby monitor safe while you carry it around (many baby monitors don’t come with a belt clip) and a fairly decent range inside your home.

What I don’t like about the VTech Digital Audio Baby Monitor

VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby MonitorThere is only one thing that I find problematical with this baby monitor and that is the batteries for the parent units.

First of all, they are not rechargeable, so you have to keep buying batteries when they run out of juice.

Second, is that the parent units tend to eat through the batteries, if you have it on all day, rather than plugged into the mains power. If you just use them for a few hours then obviously the batteries will last longer, but if you are at home a lot and you want to keep the parent unit on you all the time, then you had better stock up on the batteries.

Other than that, this is a great little baby monitor, worth its price.

Online customer reviews

On the positive side, parents love the signal quality and the clear audio transmissions with the VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor. On the negative side is that it eats batteries!

Should you buy the VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor?

VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby MonitorIf you are looking for a budget baby monitor to use at home and don’t want lots of features then the VTech Safe & Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor might be the one for you.

With DECT 6.0 technology, you can easily hear your baby when they make a noise in the nursery and respond to them immediately.

The visual sound bars let you mute the sound when you are in company and still see if your baby is making a noise in the nursery. If you are in a noisy environment then these sound bars are invaluable.

You have a belt clip, to enable you to carry your baby monitor around with you, but still keep you hands free as well. The only potential negative is that if you use the parent unit on battery power for too long, you will need to keep replacing the batteries. Other than that, this is a well priced baby monitor with all the functions you need.

Summer Infant Wide View Video Baby Monitor

Summer Infant In View Baby Monitor

Summer Infant Wide View Video Baby Monitor

With a wide 5″ flat screen LCD handheld parent’s unit, this Summer Infant video monitor already has a super feature. Then there is the 2 way communication, IR night time vision, digital zoom and the 600ft operating range.

Summer Infant is one of the most popular baby monitor ranges and this model has just about all of the features you want, except for pan & tilt and it doesn’t play lullabies.

  • 2 way communication.
  • IR LED night time vision.
  • Wide angle lens.
  • Swivel mounting.
  • Digital zoom X2.
  • 600 ft operating range.
  • LED sound lights.
  • Battery life.
  • Expandable system.
  • 1 year manufacturer’s warranty.

2 way communication

Not all of the Summer Infant baby monitors have 2 way communication, which is a very important feature for a baby monitor. This feature allows you to talk to your baby in the nursery when you are elsewhere in your home, calming them and letting them know that you are on your way.

You can also talk to your partner when they are in the nursery caring for your little one. The only other Summer Infant baby video monitor that has 2 way communication is the Baby Secure, which also has pan and tilt as well, but it has a much smaller screen, coming in at 2.5″ compared to the large 5″ of this model.

IR LED night time vision

Summer Infant Wide View Baby Monitor The IR night time vision automatically switches itself on when the camera detects low light levels.

This means that you don’t have to worry about checking the amount of light in the room and you can clearly see your little on at any time of the day or night.

Wide angle lens

Even though this Summer Infant baby monitor doesn’t have pan and tilt, you do have a fairly wide viewing angle, giving you up to four times as much view of the nursery as most other monitors. This is a great feature because it makes it easier for you to track down your little one when they are scampering along the floor.

Swivel mounting

You can mount the camera on the wall or on a shelf for easier viewing, but you can also manually swivel the camera to obtain the very best wide angle view of the nursery as well.

If you really want a pan and tilt function, then you will have to put up with a screen that is half the size of this one (mentioned above), but with the wide viewing angle, so far customers don’t seem to have a problem. Mounting hardware is supplied with this baby monitor.

Summer Infant Wide View Baby Monitor Digital zoom X2

Whenever you want a closer look at your baby or toddler you can use the digital zoom feature which brings you in even closer.

The zoom is very easy to use on the touch screen and is a great feature that helps you to stop worrying when you hear them muttering in their sleep.

600 ft operating range

With a large 600 ft operating range you have plenty of opportunity to move around your home whilst keeping one eye on your little one. Some of the other baby monitors have a larger operating range, but Summer Infant is a good brand and customers don’t find a problem with this range.

LED sound lights

The Summer Infant Wide View Digital Color Video Baby Monitor comes with 5 sound activated LED lights based on the level of your little one’s cries or murmurings. The lights range from green for quiet gentle ‘cooing’ sounds to through amber and red to full blown crying.

This is a great feature if you are in a noisy room and you can’t really hear your baby over the monitor. The color of the LED lights will tell you if your baby is content or not.

Battery life

Summer Infant don’t really go into the battery life very well, simply saying that the batteries in the parent’s handheld unit last for 6 hours of continuous usage. There is a power save mode where the video screen turns off to conserve battery power (the video resumes if your baby makes a noise), but whether this extends the 6 hours or not is inconclusive at the moment.

If the battery begins to run down the indicator lights on the touchscreen will light up amber, giving you time to plug it back in and recharge the battery.

Expandable system

Summer Infant Wide View Baby Monitor If you want to have a camera in the nursery, family room and kitchen (perfect if you have a little one who scampers around the house) then you can add up to 3 additional Summer Infant cameras to this system.

With more than one camera in your home the video on your handheld unit rotates through the different cameras every 8 seconds giving you a comprehensive view of your toddlers hunting ground!

Customer reviews

Most of the online reviewers really like the Summer Infant Wide View baby Monitor, but there are also some mixed reviews. Lots of customers love the clear images at night, the large touch screen and the LED sound indicators.

On the other hand, the main problems  customers have had are with the connectivity between the camera and monitor and the short battery life on the monitor.

Summer Infant Wide View Baby Monitor Conclusions

Summer Infant is a well known brand and this baby monitor has most of the functions you need to keep an eye on your little one at home. It has 2 -way communication, a wide viewing angle, IR night time vision, a digital zoom and a large 5″ screen.

However, it doesn’t have pan and tilt and it doesn’t play lullabies. Most of customers like this baby monitor, but I have seen better all-round reviews for other baby monitors.

Timeflys Digital Video Baby Monitor Review

Timeflys Video Baby Monitor

TImeflys Digital Video Baby Monitor

The Timeflys baby video monitor is wireless and is meant to be used in the home to keep an eye on your little one. You have a camera that you place in the nursery and a handheld parent unit with a video monitor screen that displays a live video of your baby or toddler.

This is a user-friendly baby monitor with 2 way communication, pan and tilt, a zoom, IR night time vision and an ambient temperature sensor. You also have a 12 hour battery life on the parent’s unit in standby mode and a very large 1000 ft operating range.

Timeflys Video Baby Monitor One of the great features of this baby monitor, that many of the others don’t have, is that you can upload your own lullabies, songs or messages to the unit.

  • 2 way communication.
  • Pan & tilt.
  • Zoom x 2.
  • Ambient temperature sensor.
  • IR night time vision.
  • MP3 lullaby player
  • 12 battery life on standby.
  • 1000 ft operating range.
  • 1 year manufacturer’s warranty.

Timeflys Video Baby Monitor 2 way communication

The 2 way communication feature with adjustable volume is a necessity on any good baby monitor, because it lets you talk to your little on when they wake up or are unsettled, but you are in another room. You can also talk to your partner if they are in the nursery and you are over the other side of the house.

Pan and tilt and zoom

The pan and tilt on the camera has a wide 350 degree horizontal range and a 120 degree vertical range, which lets you follow your partner around the room as they end to your baby or watch your little one scamper across the room themselves.

Not all baby monitors have a pan and tilt feature and they don’t all have a zoom feature. The Timeflys baby monitor has all of these features and the x 2 zoom lets you move in for a closer look when your baby is sleeping or is unsettled.

Ambient temperature sensor

Checking the ambient temperature in the nursery is not a feature that all parent’s find useful, but it is there if you need it. You can set a minimum and maximum range and the handheld parent unit will alert you if the temperature goes outside of this range. The temperature can be set in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

IR night time vision

The Timeflys baby video monitor has an automatic IR night time function of 15ft that turns on when the camera detects low light levels. This means that you don’t need to turn the light on in the nursery to see your baby as the camera gives you crystal clear vision, regardless of whether it is day or night.

There is also a brightness setting that you can alter to suit your own preferences, on the parents unit.

Timeflys Video Baby Monitor

MP3 lullaby player

The MP3 lullaby and story player is a great additional feature on this baby monitor, because you can load your own lullabies, stories or songs onto an SD card and remotely play any of them from anywhere in your home.

You can also connect the parent’s unit to your computer using the USB cable and upload songs or lullabies directly.

Battery life

When you set the parent’s unit to standby mode you have up to 12 hours battery life before it needs to be recharged. Using the VOX feature you can set the monitor to shut down when it hasn’t sensed sound after 50 seconds (which saves the battery) and it will come back on automatically when your little one cries or makes a noise.

When the battery in the handheld unit is becoming low, the unit will give a notification alert, so you can plug it in to recharge.

Operating range

With a large 1000ft operating range, you can be just about anywhere in your home and still be within range of the camera. If you go outside of this 1000ft range, the parent’s unit will alert you so you can move closer.

Customer Reviews

There are not a lot of customer reviews online so far for the Timeflys baby video monitor, but those that do exist are rather mixed. For example, customers like the pan and tilt feature and being able to upload your own lullabies to the unit.

On the other hand, some customers complain about the quality of the videos and that their monitors stopped working properly or recharging after only a few months.

Conclusions

Timeflys Video Baby MonitorAt first blush, Timeflys is a great baby monitor with lots of great features. it has 2 way communication, pan and tilt, a zoom, large operating range and you can upload your own lullabies.

At the moment however, there are not enough online reviews from customers to get a clear picture of this baby monitor, because too many have had problems with it.

Samsung SEW 3043W – video baby monitor review

Samsung SEW 3043W baby monitor

Check out the Samsung SEW 3043W video baby monitor

The Samsung SEW 3043W BrightView baby monitor is a sturdy little camera unit with pan & tilt, 2-way communication, IR night time vision, feed timer alert, long 900 ft range, touch screen, standby VOX and a 4.5 hour battery life (when used continuously).

  • Pan & tilt.
  • 2-way communication.
  • Zoom.
  • IR night time vision.
  • Night light.
  • 4 pre-programmed lullabies.
  • Feed timer alerts.
  • Supports multiple cameras.
  • Long 900 ft range.
  • Standby/sleep mode/VOX.
  • Touch screen.
  • 4.0 hours monitor battery life and USB charger.
  • Easy setup.

2-way communication

This lovely Samsung BrightView Baby Monitor comes with 2-way communication and has a built in microphone and HD audio. This is a great feature and allows you to not only hear your little one when they wake in the nursery, but to also chat to them or even sing to them as you make your way into their room.

Pan & tilt

Another great feature, pan and tilt gives you the ability to move the lens 300 degrees horizontally and 110 degrees vertically. This means that if your little one is already crawling or walking, you can follow them around the room with the camera as you finish up what you are doing and head to their room.

Zoom

With the BrightView baby monitor you also have a zoom function (x1, x1.5, x2) which you can access on the touch screen and zoom in or out on the camera.

IR night time vision

Samsung BrightView baby monitorNight time vision is essential in a baby monitor, because you need to see your baby or toddler during the night from your room.

With non-visible IR LEDs you can actually see your baby in the dark, but the LEDs themselves won’t wake up your baby.

The range of the IR night time vision is 16 ft, so you can easily pop the Samsung baby monitor on a shelf in the nursery and still see your baby clearly in the dark. The IR function automatically turns on when the camera detects low light levels.

Night light

Your Samsung baby monitor comes with a soft night light, which by default switches on when you turn the camera on. You can turn this night light off on the camera itself or remotely, if you prefer to have the room dark.

Lullabies

This video baby monitor comes with 4 pre-set lullabies, which you can turn on or off remotely. This means that you can be on the other side of the house, hear your baby wake over the monitor and remotely play one of the lullabies to help keep them settled, while you make your way to the nursery.

Feed timer alerts

Samsung SEW 3043W BrightView baby monitorThis is an unusual feature, but might come in handy for you, depending on your needs.

All you need to do is to access the feed timer alert on the touchscreen, and input the time of your next feed.

You will receive a notification alarm when the time is up, so you never forget another feed again (not that most babies give you the opportunity!).

Supports multiple cameras

You can add up to 3 more Samsung baby video cameras to the one system, which is enough to monitor your family all over the house.

Operating range

You have a large 900 ft operating range, so there is plenty of room for you to move around and still be within range of the camera. You don’t need to worry, because there is an out of range alarm, which notifies you when the hand held parent unit is no longer within the detection range of the camera.

Standby/sleep mode/VOX

Samsung BrightView baby monitorIn VOX mode, you can save the life of the battery in your hand held unit so that if there is no significant sound after 30 seconds, the screen turns off and goes into standby mode.

Whenever there is a sound above a certain level, the screen on the hand held unit comes back to life and you can see what is happening.

You can set the sensitivity of this sound detection to low (60dBA) or high (50dBA), depending on your needs. There is also a VOX mode indicator on the screen, letting you know which of the detection modes you have selected.

Both the low and high sound level detection modes will trigger the screen to turn on for 30 seconds and then return to standby mode. You can also set the unit to AUDIO ONLY, so that when the screen turns off you can still hear what is going on.

Touch screen

The 5.0″ touch screen is a great feature of this baby monitor, making it much easier to change your setting that having to press buttons all of the time. With our smart phones and iPads, a touch screen seems second nature to us now and it is nice to see a baby monitor with this type of screen.

Battery life and USB charger

Samsung SEW 3043W baby monitorThere is a battery capacity level indicator at the top of the touch screen on the hand held unit, so you always know how much charge you have left (its a Lithium Ion rechargeable battery).

A second indicator will flash if you need to recharge the unit and the monitor needs to be plugged into the mains power to charge. You can also use the USB charger which comes with this baby monitor.

The battery life in continuous mode is 4 hours, but you can dramatically extend this time frame by using the VOX mode.

Easy setup

All you need to do is to place the camera in the best position for yourself and plug it into the mains power. Then pair the monitor with the camera using the touch screen on the hand held monitor, choose your settings and you are good to go. A baby monitor is so much easier to set up than a nanny cam!

Customer Reviews

The majority of customers love this baby video monitor with many of the comments from online reviewers remarking about the crystal clear HD images and the large size of the touch screen.

The only complaints are about the short battery life (unless you switch the monitor to the VOX mode) and some people have had problems with limited range. Oh and the customer support apparently isn’t very helpful, so that could be a problem for you if you need to contact the manufacturer.

Conclusions

The Samsung SEW 3043W BrightView baby monitor has all of the features you need  in a baby monitor, as well as a nice big touch screen and crystal clear images. Customers love this baby monitor with hardly a bad word to be said at all. Definitely worth a look.

With the new DECT technology you have complete privacy in your home and with the 2-way communication you can calm your baby, letting them know you are there for them when they need you. There is no pan & tilt or IR night time vision, but customers still like this sleek looking baby monitor.

  • 2-way communication
  • 18 hour battery life (parent unit)
  • Temperature sensor
  • Night light and lullabies
  • 2-year extended warranty

>> Short on time?  To skip my review and check out the best price I can find for the Philips Avent DECT baby monitor, click here.

DECT Technology

DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) is a fabulous innovation because it prevents mobile phones, other mobile devices and other baby monitors interfering with your reception from the Philips Avent monitor. You also have full data encryption giving you a secure and private connection in your home, meaning that no-one else can see or hear your baby.

With the DECT technology you also have high quality sound, so you will have no problem knowing when your baby is awake and fine or awake and unsettled.

Alerts

Philips Avent DECT Baby Monitor If you wander too far away from the baby monitor, the parent unit will alert you so you can move closer.

The Philips Avent monitor has good range, both inside and outside of your home, so you shouldn’t have any problems being too far away that you can’t hear when your baby needs you.

If the power in the parent’s hand unit becomes low, you will receive an alert, so you can plug it into the charger.

However, with an 18 hour battery life on a full charge, you shouldn’t have any problems with a low battery.

You also have LED lights which indicate the level and intensity of the sound, so you can instantly tell if your little one is very upset or just happily gurgling in their cot – even if you have the volume muted.

Battery power

The baby unit on the Philips Dect monitor can run on 4 x 1.5V AA Alkaline batteries (not supplied), which will last for 24 hours without plugging into mains power. The parent unit runs on 2 x rechargeable batteries (supplied).

Temperature sensor

Some people aren’t worried about this feature, but if you want to – you can set up alerts, so that you are notified when the ambient temperature in the nursey is outside of your set parameters.

Night light and lullabies

Philips Avent DECT Baby MonitorWith 5 soothing lullabies to choose from, you can easily calm your baby until you can attend to them or help sooth your little one, so they drift off to sleep.

You can remotely switch on these lullabies, however apparently this function is not available in the US and Canada. The night light of this baby monitor, which can be switched on and off is also a great feature (again remote activation is not available in the US and Canada).

2-way communication

When your baby or toddler wakes and is unsettled, you can calm them or sing to them and let them know that you are on your way.

You can also remotely turn on a lullaby or the night light when you hear that your little one has woken, as well as checking via the LED volume display if you have the volume muted.

There are 4 different sensitivity levels with the DECT baby monitor, so you can set the volume to a level where you don’t hear every rustle, but you do hear if your baby cries or someone talks in the room.

Anything else?

With the Avent baby monitor you have a useful lanyard which you hang around your neck to make the parent unit easy to carry around. Remember that this is not a WIFI unit and you can’t use this system on your smart phone and you can’t see you baby with the Philips Avent monitor, you can only hear them and talk back to them.

Customer Reviews for the Philips DECT Baby Monitor

Pros:  Parents love the fact that with the Philips Avent baby monitor you can change the sensitivity of the unit to suit your needs.

Cons:  Most people love the features of the Philips Avent baby monitor, but a good 15% of consumers have had problems with the batteries not charging the parent unit properly. Without the parental unit working, this baby monitor is not much use, which is unfortunate because most people are happy with it.

Conclusion

Philips Avent DECT Baby Monitor The Philips Avent DECT Baby Monitor is a lovely looking monitor at a very affordable price.

It has every feature you could possibly need in a home baby monitor, but would be even better if it had a pan & tilt and IR night time vision.

The Philips Avent monitor has a great range in and outside your home, has 2-way communication, a temperature sensor, night light, lullabies, data encryption and high quality, crystal clear sound.

Overall, a great little baby monitor, although some parents do have problems with the batteries not charging after a few months, which makes the 2 year extended warranty seem like a great idea!

Motorola Baby Monitor (MBP36) Review

Motorola Baby Monitor MBP36

Keep an eye on your baby at home with the Motorola baby monitor

The Motorola MBP36 is a nifty little wireless baby monitor that records both sound and video. Setup is easy and don’t need a PC to set up this Motorola baby monitor, so no need for WIFI.

On the flip side, you can’t view the video recordings or audio on your smartphone or iPad, as this monitor is only for home use.

  • 2-way communication.
  • 4 to 5 hours battery life for the hand held monitor.
  • IR night time vision.
  • Zoom facility.
  • Pan & Tilt.
  • Temperature sensor.
  • Plays gentle lullabies.
  • Alerts you when the hand held monitor is too far away from the camera.

My Motorola MBP36S baby monitor review

This Motorola baby monitor has a fairly decent range of 650 feet from the camera, so you can carry the handheld unit around with you and if you exceed the transmitting range the unit gives you an audible alarm. This means that you can work at home or attend to other duties, while your baby is safely asleep in the nursery.

You have a large 3.5 inch screen with an LED display and crystal clear images. You receive real-time videos and sound from the nursery, so you always know whether your baby is asleep or is starting to wake.

This Motorola video monitor has pan & tilt, zoom, lullabies, temperature senor and IR night-time vision

Another two great features of this Motorola baby monitor is the remote pan & tilt function and the zoom, which lets you see whatever is going on in the nursery (or any room where you have mounted your baby camera) and zoom in close to get a closer look at your baby sleeping.

The pan & tilt is even more useful when you have a toddler, because you can follow them around the room with the camera. You also have infra-red night time vision, so you can clearly see your baby at night, which is a great feature because you don’t need to put any lights on and disturb your baby or toddler.

The Motorola digital video baby monitor also comes with 5 preset lullabies, so you can settle and calm your baby when you are on your way to the nursery or play them as your baby drifts off to sleep. You also have a temperature monitor, so you can be sure that the nursery is always kept at the right temperature for your children.

Motorola baby monitor

With all of these features, the Motorola MBP36 is a great value baby monitor, but it doesn’t stop there.

You also have eight different levels of volume and brightness which you can control from your handheld unit, so you can turn the sound or brightness of the monitor down during the evening or at night.

The camera can be mounted on a wall if this suits you better than just standing it on a dresser or shelf in the nursery, although mounting screws are not included in your package.

Lastly, with this Motorola baby monitor camera you can have up to four additional cameras in your home, all on the same handheld unit.

So you can either use the split screen facility and automatically switch between all of the screens on your handheld monitor or watch them all at the same time on a split screen.

This is great if you have more than one baby, toddler or child and need to watch multiple rooms.

  • Keep an eye on your baby in the nursery when you are elsewhere in your home.
  • Monitor your baby at night when they are asleep in the nursery.
  • Watch your elderly relative to make sure they are safe.

Conclusion

This lovely little Motorola baby monitor has just about every function you could possibly want in a baby monitor. However, only 50% of customer reviewers gave this baby monitor a 4 or 5 star rating whilst 30% gave it a one star rating. There are a variety of problems, the main complaints concerning the battery in the handheld monitor not lasting long enough or not charging.

This monitor is fairly expensive, so if there is a problem with the battery, than that is a real shame, because otherwise, this Motorola baby video monitor has all the bells and whistles you need in a great baby monitor.

The pan and tilt is a fabulous feature on this Levana monitor

With the pan and tilt on the Levana Astra baby monitor you can remotely move the camera lens using your handheld monitor and track your toddler scurrying across the room, check if you left the window open in the nursery or whether the cat is approaching the crib.

Once you find what you are looking for you can zoom in to monitor the situation closely.

The infrared night vision is a great feature, because you can monitor your baby during the evening and at night. The images are very clear, so you can see if they are moving around.

The monitor will alert you if they wake and the smart LED indicator ring alerts you to their cries, if you have the volume muted. You can even select and play one of 3 pre-set lullabies to calm you baby and help them to relax and sleep.

The Levana Astra 3.5 is a long range baby monitor with up to 750ft transmission range. The optimal range is 200ft, but without too many solid obstructions you should have lots of room to move around and still keep a good eye on your little one.

Lastly, you can add up to 3 more cameras to the system so you can monitor your toddler as they wander around across different rooms and auto scan through the cameras to keep a good check on them.

Adding more cameras is useful if you have twins or other young children that you want to keep an eye on as well.

  • Keep an eye on your precious baby while you are busy in another room.
  • Monitor your baby at night when they are sleeping.
  • Observe an elderly relative to make sure they are safe.

Levana Baby Monitor (Astra) -best baby monitor reviews

Customer Reviews

More than 60% of customer reviews (that’s a lot!) gave this Levana baby monitor a 4 or 5 star rating. Customers like that you can lock the handheld baby monitor, so little fingers can’t mess with the settings and the video quality is excellent.

20% of customer reviews gave the Levana Astra a one star rating. Complaints included buttons that were too small on the monitor, the 2-way communication makes your voice sound robotic and then various other problems to do with interference, poor images and it simply not working.

Additional information

Download the Levana baby monitor (Astra) Manual here.

Check out the additional add-on cameras for the Levana Astra Baby Monitor here.

Conclusion

The Levana Astra is a full feature baby monitor that the majority of customers love. The pan and tilt is a well-liked feature, as is the 2-way communication and in general, there is no interference from other 2.4Ghz devices in the home (common with many other monitors).

Customers did note that there is no way to clip the monitor to you when you are working or walking around (though it does have a stand) and the smart ring LED is annoying at night on the monitor, so most people turn it face down when they are sleeping.

Also there is no ambient temperature sensor, but most people don’t find that a problem. Overall, the Levana Astra is a good value camera, but with 20% of customers giving it only a one star rating, I might read some of my other reviews before I decided on this baby monitor.

2-way communication

With the 2-way communication you can talk to your baby when they wake, calm them down if they are upset and let them hear your voice and know you are on your way. This is a great feature in a baby monitor because you can sing to your baby or talk to them even if you are not in the same room.

IR night time vision

With the 4 invisible infrared LEDs you have an ultra clear image of your baby or toddler in the dark and up to 15 feet away. This model doesn’t have any of those distracting red LED lights that can keep your baby awake, so they can sleep soundly while you keep an eye on them during the night.

Zoom

The Levana baby monitor comes with a x2 zoom facility so you can get in close and make sure your baby is safe and sound at all times. It does not have a pan and tilt feature, so if this is important to you – check out my Infant Optics DXR-8 review, which does have pan & tilt.

Temperature sensor

Some parents don’t find that they want a temperature sensor feature with their baby monitor, others find it very useful. Whatever your feelings, you do have a temperature sensor to monitor whether the room is too cold, too hot or just right for your baby – if you want to use it.

48 hour battery

The Levana baby monitor comes with a PEEP mode (Power-on/off Energy efficient image). This means that if there is no sound in the nursery, the camera goes into sleep mode, saving you hours of battery life.

As soon as your baby cries or makes a sound however, the camera  and the monitor comes back to life.

The monitor runs on Lithium batteries and has a life of 8 hours when the video and audio are always switched on and 48 hours in the sleep save mode.

The camera requires 4 x AAA batteries (not included), which last for 3 hours of continuous use – which is great if the power goes out.

You also have a low battery warning with both the camera and the handheld monitor unit.

Preset lullabies

You have 3 pre-set lullabies which you can play remotely, so whenever your little one wakes you can play them a lullaby while you make your way into the nursery.

Smart LED indicator ring

A nice feature of the Levana Ayden monitor is the smart LED indicator ring, for when you have the monitor muted. The sound of your baby’s cry is color coded from whispers, to murmurs, to cooing, chatter and yelling – so you know exactly what’s happening in the nursery.

Adding extra cameras to the network

You can also add another 3 cameras to the same Levana baby video monitor setup, which is great when your baby is moving around or you have more than one child that needs monitoring.

With multiple cameras you can auto scroll through the different cameras every 6 seconds.

Benefits of using the Levana Ayden baby Monitor

  • Chat with your baby and let them know that you are on your way.
  • Keep an eye on an elderly relative in the home.

Levana Baby Monitor (Ayden)

 Customer Reviews

Nearly 80% of customer reviews gave the Levana Ayden video monitor a 4 or 5 star rating. Customers like the size of the monitor display, the crystal clear images, the night vision, the sound quality is great and signal strength is excellent.

Only a few of customer reviews gave the Ayden Levana baby monitor a one star monitor and the main complaint concerned the quality of the video, which they didn’t think was very clear. This means that the vast majority of customers love this baby monitor!

When you set the Levana Jena video baby monitor to standby mode, the image display becomes inactive after 1 minute of inactivity, but it turns back on when it detects sound. This helps to save your battery life, which is a very handy feature.

With this Levana baby monitor you can be busy working around the house while your baby sleeps safely in the nursery. You can keep checking on them with the monitor and then when they wake, you can either catch them on your monitor or hear them via the audio link. As you make your way to their room, you can talk to them via the monitor and keep them calm and soothed.

You also have 5 pre-set lullabies which you can control from your handset, so when your baby wakes you can play a soothing lullaby while you finish what you are doing and make your way to the nursery.

When you baby starts toddling or walking, you can add 3 more cameras to the Levana baby monitor system, so you are always aware of what is going on throughout your home. The system allows you to switch between different cameras every 8 seconds, so you can keep an eye on more than one child (or person!).

  • Monitor your baby or toddler in the nursery when you are in another room.
  • Make sure they are sleeping soundly and safe at night in the nursery.
  • Keep an eye on your elderly relative in the home.

Levana Sophia baby video monitor

Monitor your baby at home with the Levana Sophia baby monitor

The Levana Sophia lets you see and hear your baby while they are asleep in the nursery and you are busy in another part of your home.

This baby monitor has lots of great functions from infrared night vision, an ambient temperature sensor, 2-way communication, a lovely little night light (which you turn on or off) and a really long battery life.

  • Can be used for 2 hours on just the battery.
  • IR night time vision.
  • Temperature sensor.

This light weight, handheld Levana baby monitor is easy to carry around with you and the images are crystal clear (it uses ClearVu technology).

You can even have the sound muted, because you can tell whether your baby is crying or not by the LED indicator bar – green is quiet, then it moves through yellow, orange and red – red means come here mum!

You can mount the Levana monitor on a wall or have it standing free on a shelf or dresser in the nursery and you can also add another 3 cameras to the system. This makes it easy to keep track of your baby as he or she finds their feet around your home (the Levana baby monitor auto scans between cameras for a complete monitoring experience).

There is also an out of range warning, so if you wander too far from the base unit, you can quickly turn around and head back within range.

The camera can be battery operated for 2 hours of constant use, which is a great feature if you have a power cut – many other baby monitors don’t have this option.

  • Observe your baby in the nursery when you are busy in another part of your home.
  • Monitor them in the nursery, during the night.
  • Keep a protective eye on your elderly relative in the home.

The Levana Baby Monitor Sophia compared to the Levana Lila

These Levana baby monitors are both in the same price range and both have very similar features.

The differences seem to be that the Lila has a longer battery life in standby mode (72 hrs vs 48 hrs for the Levana Sophia) and has greater movement in the viewing angle (240o horizontal and 65o vertical vs only 73o vertical for the Levana Sophia).

On the other hand, the Levana Sophia digital 2.4 inch video baby monitor has a longer IR night vision range (15ft vs 12ft for the Lila), a wider screen (3.4 inches vs 2.4 inches for the Lila), an ambient temperature sensor and the camera can be run on batteries for 2 hrs if you have a power outage.

Customer Reviews

75% of customer reviews gave the Sophia baby monitor a 4 or 5 star rating.

Most people liked the larger screen size and the clarity of the images, the range of the handheld monitor and the fact that there is no interference from WIFI or other devices using the same frequency range (this is a big problem with some baby monitors).

Only a few customer reviews gave this baby monitor a one star rating, mainly because the monitor stopped working or they had problems with the battery life. The vast majority of customers however, were more than happy with this monitor.

My final thoughts on the Sophia Baby Monitor

The Levana Sophia is in a good price range and has lots of great features. The choice between the Lila and the Sophia comes down to preferences, but if you want a larger screen, greater night vision range and an emergency battery option for the camera, then the Sophia baby monitor fits the bill.

If you want greater movement in the viewing angle and a longer standby battery life, then the Levana Lila might be more suitable. In the end, both of these Levana baby monitors do a good job, it just comes down to the mix of features you find best for your situation.

My Levana Lila baby monitor review

The Levana Lila is light weight and has a clip to attach to your clothes, so it is easy to carry it around with you during the day, which means that you can achieve so much more and not worry about your baby while he or she is having a nap.

A great feature of the Levana Lila 2.4 is that it has a standby mode called PEEP (power on/off energy efficient picture) which sets the baby monitor to sleep when there is no sound detected.

This saves the life of the battery (it has a 72hr life in PEEP mode), but as soon as sound is detected, for example your baby cries, then the monitor becomes active and you can once again see your baby.

Mounting the camera is not a problem, because you can choose between a wall mounting or simply stand the baby monitor on a unit or dresser in the nursery, which gives you lots of options.

You can also add another 3 cameras to the Levana baby monitor system, which enables you to monitor multiple rooms and multiple toddlers or babies at the same time.

The angle of the Levana Lila digital baby video monitor can be adjusted manually, so that you can keep an eye on your baby at all times – the camera has a wide angle of movement and can be moved 240 degrees horizontally and 65 degrees vertically.

The 2-way communication feature is great for soothing your baby and you can also talk to your partner when they are comforting your baby in the nursery  – so you can ask them if they want a cup of tea or a helping hand!

Lastly, the Levana Lila operates on a digital signal which is private and secure, meaning that unlike analog signals, the videos cannot be accessed by anyone else.

  • Keep a watchful eye on your baby or toddler when you are busy in another part of the home.
  • Monitor your baby when they are asleep in the nursery at night.
  • Make sure your elderly relative is always safe in your home.

Customer Reviews

With 75% of all customer reviewers giving the Levana Lila Baby Monitor a 4 or 5 star rating, clearly they like this little monitor.

Customers liked the quality of the images and remarked that being able to control the brightness of the images on the monitor, made it easy on the eyes when moving between sunny, bright rooms and dark rooms.

Customers also liked the two-way communication and audio functions, which they found really useful for when their baby wakes up early – they can talk to their baby over the monitor and let them know they are on the way.

One customer stated that the ability to talk like God over the speaker to her children was priceless!

Lots of customers also noted the affordability of the Levana Lila, in comparison to other brands with the same features.

7% of all customer reviews gave this Levana monitor a one star rating. The over-riding concern was that there was no instruction manual with this baby monitor, however they also said that it is very easy to set up without a manual (I have added a downloadable manual lower down in this review in ’Additional Information’).

Another complaint was that the clip to attach it to your clothes isn’t very sturdy and a number of customers said that the video quality and sound was poor and there was some interference from other WIFI enabled devices (although increasing the distance between devices appeared to fix the problem).

Conclusion

The Levana Lila is a nice little baby monitor with IR night vision, clear images and a long battery life. If you want a no fuss baby monitor that can be extended to other cameras and comes with two cameras already – this Levana baby monitor might be the one for you.

Infant Optics Baby Monitor DXR-5 Review

Infant Optics DXR-5 baby monitor

Keep your baby safe at home with the Infant Optics DXR-5 baby monitor

The Infant Optics DXR-5 is a lovely little baby monitor with no bells and whistles. However, whilst it does not have a lot of functions, what it does have  – it does well and for the price and quality – is well liked by mums and dads.

  • 3 to 4 hour battery life.
  • IR night time vision.
  • Max 800 ft range.
  • VOX standby mode to save battery life.

My Infant Optics DXR-5 review

The DXR-5 Infant Optics baby monitor does not have a zoom, pan and tilt facility or a temperature sensor. However, the DXR-5 does have two great features – IR night vision, which is a necessity for nighttime monitoring of your baby and a standby mode which saves battery time, if no sound is detected for 3 minutes.

You can mount the DXR-5 camera on the wall or stand it on a dresser or unit in the nursery, giving you lots of options for full coverage of the nursery – so this is a good feature.

Infant Optics DXR-5 -baby monitor

Another great feature of the DXR-5 is that the handheld monitor not only has a rechargeable lithium battery, but it can also be recharged by plugging it into the mains power. On the other hand, the camera needs to be plugged into the mains to operate.

You can also add an additional 3 cameras to the DXR-5 system, but you have to manually switch between cameras, whereas with the Infant Optics DXR-8 this facility is automatic (switching between cameras every 12 seconds).

With the VOX feature you can switch the video monitor off, which conserves the battery life, and it will automatically switch itself back on when sound is detected. It will also turn itself off if no sound is detected for 3 minutes and automatically turn itself back on when sound is detected.

VOX mode helps to extend the basic 3 to 4 hour battery life, so you might find that you only need to recharge the handheld unit once a day.

There is also a mute button, which allows you to turn the sound off whilst keeping the LED display screen active on the hand held monitor – the sound automatically turns back on when a sound is detected.

The Infant Optics DXR-5 is a closed unit, so you do not need WIFI to operate the system and you cannot access the video recording or monitor your baby using a smart phone or an iPad.

Also, it does not have a clip to attach to your clothes (neither does the DXR-8), so you will have to put the monitor in a pocket or next to you on a bench or unit.

  • Keep an eye on your baby when you are busy in another room of your home.
  • Monitor your baby when they are asleep in the nursery at night.
  • Make sure your elderly relative is safe at home.

Customer Reviews

More than 70% of customer reviewers gave the Infant Optics DXR-5 baby monitor a 4 or 5 star rating.

Customers liked the clear images from the camera and the energy saving standby mode. Also, they found that the set up is super easy, night vision is excellent and the range is good.

12% of customer reviews gave the Infant Optics DXR-5 2.4 GHZ monitor a one star rating.

The main concerns were that the volume was too low, there were problems with the range and the signals were easily lost.

In fairness for the manufacturer, they have said that it is best to move any 2.4Ghz devices, such as internet TVs, routers or smartphones, at least 3 ft away from the monitor as these can interfere with the transmissions.

It is nice to see that Infant Optics customer service responds to nearly all negative reviews on Amazon – offering help and solutions.

Compare the Infant Optics DXR-5 with the DXR-8

The DXR-8 has more functionality than the more basic DXR-5 with pan and tilt, zoom, a temperature sensor and 2-way communication.

If you only want a budget model, then the DXR-5 is a sturdy little baby monitor, although the extra features of the DXR-8 are very seductive.

Also, remember that if you want to add more cameras to the system, you can’t mix DXR-5 and DXR-8 cameras on the same system.

Conclusion

If you want a nice little baby monitor with no bells and whistles, that works well and is very affordable, then the Infant Optics DXR-5 might be the one for you.

This is a basic model, but it has everything you will most probably need at a budget price. If you want more features then you can step up to the DXR-8 model which has additional features.

My Infant Optics DXR 8 review

You have three different lenses, just like a normal camera. The Infant Optics DXR 8 is shipped with a normal lens and a zoom lens and you can purchase a wide angle lens separately (170 degree angle).

Infant Optics DXR-8 Baby Monitor - nfant optics dxr 8 reviewThis means that you can select the best viewing angle for your circumstances. For example, you can use the normal lens while your baby is young and then switch to a wide angle lens when they begin to crawl and move around.

With the Infant Optics DXR 8, you will receive real time video and sound from the nursery, so you will be instantly notified when your baby is awake. The IR night vision is a handy feature, keeping you aware of your baby’s sleeping patterns during the evening and overnight.

Even better, the screen will go into standby mode after a set time period, but the audio function remains active, so you don’t waste the battery and keep your baby awake with a bright screen.

A nice feature of the Infant Optics DXR-8 video baby monitor is the temperature sensor, which lets you know the ambient room temperature, so your baby is kept nice and comfortable.

You can also have the sound on or off and if you switch the sound off, you can monitor your baby using the LED display, which changes depending on the strength of your baby’s sounds.

Infant Optics DXR-8 Baby Monitor - infant optics dxr 8 review

The Infant Optics DXR-8 has both a pan and tilt function as well as a lens zoom, both of which are are remote controlled. This means that you can zoom in on your baby and check on them without disturbing their sleep, as well as following toddlers around the room with the pan and tilt, if they are scampering away from your field of view.

You can link up to 4 cameras to the Infant Optics system and you can automatically cycle through the cameras every 12 seconds, giving you virtually continuous monitoring and audio surveillance in multiple rooms.

You can also mute one camera and keep the sound detection on another camera, which is great if you have more than one baby or toddler to monitor in different rooms.

Another useful function is that the video can be switched off and instead, you can just use the audio function. Yet another brilliant feature is that the Infant Optics DXR-8 is easy to take with you on holiday and set up when you are travelling.

Finding the right spot to place the camera in the nursery is easy, because the DXR-8 baby monitor can be wall mounted or placed on a dresser or shelf in the nursery.  The camera does need to be plugged into the mains however, (so it needs to be close enough to an electrical outlet), but the handheld unit can be run on battery.

The Infant Optics DXR-8 is a closed unit, meaning that it does not need WIFI and you can only monitor your baby using the handheld unit, you cannot use a smart phone or an iPad.

There is an out-of-range warning, a low battery warning, and volume and brightness controls.

  • Make sure your baby is safely sleeping in the nursery at night.
  • Keep an eye on them when you are busy in another part of the home.
  • Monitor your elderly relative, so they are always safe in your home.

Infant Optics DXR-5 compared to the DXR-8

The DXR-8 has many more features than the more basic DXR-5 model, but it is also a little more costly. If you just want a budget model then the sturdy DXR-5 is a great little baby monitor, but for more functions you need to go with the DXR-8.

Remember, you cannot combine these two baby monitors in the same system. So if you already have a DXR-8 baby monitor and you need to expand your system, you need to purchase another DXR-8 monitor, not a DXR-5 and vice versa.

Customer Reviews

There are nearly 2,500 Infant Optics DXR 8 reviews on Amazon and more than 80% of have given the Infant Optics DXR-8 baby monitor a 4 or 5 star rating.

Customers liked the pan and tilt facility which was easy to use remotely, the images were crystal clear and the battery life is great.

The two-way sound is also a fabulous feature and it is easy to install and to use. Customer support is also great and they are very helpful and quick to respond. Customers seem to love this baby monitor.

Only 7% of the Infant Optics DXR 8 reviews gave this baby monitor a one star rating, mainly because of problems with beeping sounds, however the new firmware has resolved this problem. The main complaints seem to be about a loss in signal and the loud beeping alarm that notifies you of this signal loss – which is fixed now.

Apparently, this problem can be resolved by moving any 2.4Ghz devices at least 3 ft away from the monitor (Internet TVs, routers and smartphones).

Some customers also complained that the camera interferes with their home WIFI, but keeping the baby monitor and your router separate seems to do the trick.

My final thoughts on the Infant Optics DXR-8 Baby Monitor

The Infant Optics DXR-8 baby monitor is well liked by customers and has just about every feature you could possibly want in a monitor.

There have been some problems with a loss of signal and interruptions to home WIFI, but the manufacturers suggest that this is due to the nearness of other internet devices operating on the same wavelength.

Overall, this is a nice little baby monitor that has lots of great features – and fabulous customer support.
