MiSafes mini surveillance camera and nanny cam

This is a very affordable surveillance camera that can also be used as a nanny cam. With 2 way communication and a wide angle lens, it doesn’t have everything, but given its low price, it is well worth considering.

One point to note is that this surveillance camera is advertised as being a wireless surveillance camera, which it is and isn’t!

It isn’t wireless, because it has to be plugged into the mains power to operate or run via a USB charger – it doesn’t have any batteries. On the other hand it is wireless, because it can connect to your WiFi network in your home, and doesn’t need a complicated computer setup process.

2 way communication

With a built-in microphone and speaker, you can easily talk to your family at home when you are at work, using your mobile device (smart phone or tablet). You can also watch live videos of what is happening at home, so along with the 2 way communication, this is a great surveillance camera and nanny cam.

Video recordings

When motion is detected, the camera begins to record to the SD card. There is no cloud storage, so if you want to keep the videos you need to transfer them from your SD card to your computer. 

Whilst you have live 2 way communication with the MiSafes Mini Surveillance Camera, the actual videos recorded to the SD card in the surveillance camera do not include audio.

This may or may not be a problem for you, however since recording audio without someone’s permission is illegal, then it might be a bonus.

Just about all customers say that the images and videos are really clear, in fact some say that the image quality is better than many other nanny cams that they have tried.

No night vision

Another point to note is that this camera does not have night vision. Some customers find that they can see enough at night, so that this isn’t a problem, but there might be occasions when you might want night vision.

Wide viewing angle and swivel base

The actual lens has a wide 120 degree viewing angle, but the manual 360 degree swivel mounting lets you see whichever part of the room you designate.

There is no pan & tilt, so you can’t remotely swivel the angle of the camera, but you can set it up to watch specific parts of the room.

Motion detection and notifications

When the camera detects motion within its field of view, you are automatically sent a notification with a snapshot to your smart phone. You can then access the app on your smart phone and view the live videos. There is a very small delay in the videos, but most customers say that this isn’t a problem.

Whilst more than one person can sign in to view the videos, only one person will receive the motion notifications. You can nominate this person within the app.

Mounting options

With a strong magnetic base, the mounting options are pretty good with this surveillance camera. In fact, it is one of its best features. You can stand it on a shelf, mount it to a wall or even to the ceiling. Remember however, that the images are misleading, because it still has to be plugged into a power outlet or a USB charger to operate.

With the magnetic plate, you can attach the camera to the side of the fridge or freezer, even on the side of a metal shelf in the house or in the garage.

Easy to set up

One of the comments made by most online customer reviews is that this nanny cam is so easy to set up. In fact, most customers have it up and running in 5 minutes flat. Just follow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide and you should be fine. 

You can also add more than one of these cameras to the app, so you can cover as much of your home as you want.

What do customers say about the MiSafes Mini Surveillance Camera?

Customers love how easy it is to setup this nanny cam and that the images and videos are really clear. Some customers however, have had problems syncing their smart phones with the app and others find that the app is just too clumsy to use effectively.

Others find that they can only access the camera using the app if they are at home – which defeats the purpose of having a nanny cam or surveillance camera.

To be honest, the app seems to be the big problem with this camera, so if you are considering buying it, please make sure you read more online reviews, before making your final decision.

Should you buy the MiSafes Mini Surveillance Camera?

Well, if you want a surveillance camera with a 360 degree manual mounting swivel and lots of mounting options, 2 way communication, SD card slot and a wide angle lens for less than $50, the MiSafes Camera ticks all the boxes.

It is very easy to setup and has great images and videos, but it doesn’t have pan & tilt or night time vision.

The biggest problem with this surveillance camera however, is the app, because a lot of online customers can’t sync their smart phones with the app or it simply keeps dropping out.
